Unless trying to resolve poor ride quality problems with an RV trailer, it is recommended that trailer tires be inflated to the pressure indicated on the sidewall of the tire. Trailer tires experience significant lateral (side-to-side) loads due to vehicle sway from uneven roads or passing vehicles. Using the inflation pressure engraved on the sidewall will provide optimum load carrying capacity and minimize heat build-up.

The pounds per square inch (psi) pressure number branded on the tire's sidewall identifies the maximum cold inflation pressure that specific tire is rated to hold. However, the tire's maximum pressure is not necessarily the correct pressure for every vehicle upon which the tire can be used (almost all vehicle manufacturers' recommended tire inflation pressures are less than the tires' maximum pressure).

What do trailer tires have to do with automotive tires used on a vehicle? I realize they are tires and all but it is handled differently.

This is a placard to a chevy truck. The tires are load range e tires rated for 80 psi maximum inflation pressure. The manufacturer of the vehicle also recommends 80 psi for the rear tires to get the maximum payload and towing capacity.
Slightly different than a jeep yes and yes ypu should always go by the placard the vehicle manufacturer gives you but if ypu wanted to you could inflate to whatever the tire says and bounce down the road.

I donít want to rain on anyoneís parade; the issue with tire pressure and hazards is under inflation. When a tire is under inflated it will build up heat and there is a greater chance for the tire to blow-out or burst hence the issue a few years back with the Ford Explorer and the firestone tires (like loveracing1988 eluded to). You should always check your tire pressure when they are cold sitting at least 3 hours or more (preferably out of the sun) in the early morning is always best after sitting all night. You should use the tire pressure on the door jamb not whatís on the tire. Itís possible to have two exact same tires on two different tires and have two different tire pressures.

In the winter months I always set the tire pressure 2-3lbs higher as the air is less dense. As a rough gage tires generally lose about 1psi per 10 degrees colder it gets. The best tire graph that I ever saw was in a Subaru Outback ownerís manual where it displayed exactly what tire pressure to place the tires at a certain temperature. It was breaking it down "Barney style" and for each 10 degrees lower the temperature the PSI increased by approximately 1 PSI. I hope this helps. A low tire even in the winter when itís cold outside can still build up enough heat to blow-out especially when there is excessive amount of weight like truck tires or trailer tires. I just picked up my Cherokee limited 12/26 and drove it 300 miles back home.
Ride was a bit hard, but firm so checked the pressure, remembering this thread.
41 psi on the tires with the max sidewall rated for 52 psi, I believe.
The door states 33 psi. I am now sure that 41 must be the shipping psi that is used. So it looks like they will get reduced to 36 psi in the morning.
I usually tow with that psi, +3 over the door psi but with the cold winter as mentioned above That's what 'll use.
That was a good point on cold and psi.
Heat is the worst enemy of tires, mostly caused by under inflation.
I bet the dealer just forgot to reduce the pressure on delivery for the prep.

I had a nitrogen treatment done on mine, factory they were 43, probably to keep from flat spoting if sitting to long. Now with Nitrogen they are at 36. Well more like 35, 36, 36, 37. They can never get them all exactly right lol.

as someone.else said, i usually take the recomended and add 3-5 psi depending on application and tire type.

You'll drive yourself crazy if you keep checking tire pressure over and over.

If you set them according to the door jam conditions you are fine. They will fluctuate up and down as you use it.
