Re: Trailhawk with the penstastar engine.

Thanks for the information. I do hope I get the EPA rating on the V6. It will be great to go from 13 on my V8 to 19 on the Cherokee V6.

Re: Trailhawk with the penstastar engine.

On my test drives, the V6 got BETTER mpg than the 4 cyl.

Sounds counter-intuitive, but hear me out. The 4cyl topped out in 7th gear at 70 mph, and the engine was at about 2100 RPM. The V6 on the same stretch of highway dropped into 8th gear, and the RPM was about 1650 at 70 mph. I reset the lie-o-meter on both before starting the test drives, and when I drove back onto the lot, the V6 eeked out slightly better mpg on my 20 min drive of each. Small "sample" I know, but it was enough to convince me that the V6 was the way to go.

Even if the 6 only matches the 4 cyl for mpg, it's still 90 hp advantage for very little penalty mpg wise. There is the initial cost for the V6 option, but I think it's worth it. That 3.6L pentastar (on which the 3.2L is based) has been good.

Re: Trailhawk with the penstastar engine.

It would be easy to imagine the V6 not giving up much to the I4 at highway speeds and be safer to drive.
If you are mostly an urbanite though I think the I4 would be enough.
But you don't really buy THs for the mpg. They are geared so low that you cannot have mpg as a high priority.
If you want a great 4x4 system and get 3 to 5 better mpgs then you go latitude or limited AD II.

Re: Trailhawk with the penstastar engine.

Just to interject: I just out pulled a V8 Chevy 4x4 high wheeler up a freeway entrance ramp before he flew away on the flat.
A vehicle that can pull like my Cherokee is welcome to some extra helpings of gas.

You think the difference will be that much? The EPA ratings are lower for thr TH version, but not THAT much lower....

My TH is averaging 19.8 mpg probably 50/50 with 800 miles. I'm a fairly aggressive driver.
