Transmission Problem

Our Cherokee is one year old with just less than 10,000 miles. Started the car and the Transmission light came on and the gear would not shift. Going to have it towed to the dealer tomorrow. Any idea what the problem maybe?

Re: Transmission Problem

Any codes stored in the EVIC?

You might want to do a couple more engine start/stop sequences including opening and closing your drivers door between starts to see if that clears any hiccup. It's like rebooting a computer.

Just curious were any other indicators on like a parking brake fault or the traction control light?

Re: Transmission Problem

Seeing as they're computer controlled I would try MDBones' suggestion. You may also want to pull the battery cable for 5 minutes to do a hard reset. Might lose a few presets but you might clear any issues.

Re: Transmission Problem

The dealer said that it needed a software update which they did and the Jeep was running fine until last night. The remote start would not work, the transmission indicator is on and the service transmission message also comes on. We are also getting a message to have the park breaks serviced and when we put the car in drive the D indication on the shift blinks. We got it to the dealer who is telling us that they need to order a part which will take one to two weeks. The dealer also tells us that they will only give us a loaner for five days and if we want it extended we need to talk with Chrysler. I knew the Cherokee had some transmission issues but I thought it had all been worked out. I'm ready to trade the car in and move on. Not worth the hassle or stress.

Did they tell you what part it needs?
