2nd time - transmission cut out at highway speed, and I had to coast to the shoulder. Restarted several times to get the car to shift back down to first gear. I drove to the dealer with the check engine light on. (Fix-reset the computer system.

3rd time- picked the car up in the evening for the 2nd mentioned fix and the transmission cut out after 5 miles going highway speeds. Coasted to the shoulder, and restarted and drove back to the dealer. (Fix- the tail lights were leaking water into the spare tire well. The water was then leaking into the emergency brake module. Not sure I believe that. They replaced the ebrake electronic module and fixed the leak.)

4th time- about a week after fix number 3.... The transmission cut out at highway speeds. Once again I coasted to the shoulder and got it started again and took it back to the dealer. (Fix- replace the transmission and the transmission electronic module. Got the car back 2 weeks later.)

5th time- picked the car up from fix number 4, and drove to work and the drove home from work. On my way home from work the service engine light came on. Drove it to the dealer the next morning.

Waiting on the newest diagnosis as we speak.

What a nightmare.

Wow....that sucks.
Is this your first Jeep ? If Chrysler wants to bring in new customers from other makes they need to address these issues NOW.
I have been a Jeep (Chrysler) guy all my life. I never had any real issues with any of the vehicles I have or had. When I hear things like you have described it just upsets me.
I hope your Cherokee gets fixed and you can finally enjoy what 'Jeepin' is all about.
Best of luck !

Re: Transmission problems

My sympathies, and Jeep owes you a new vehicle and apology.

I have almost 40 years of Jeep ownership ('93 Grand Cherokee, '97 Wrangler, '11 Grand Cherokee, '14 Cherokee), and have had only two issues (manifold, water pump).

Re: Transmission problems

Had rough shifts from 1-2 and 2-3 within first 2k miles. Finally transmission dies - will not engage in drive. Get a new transmission. Now the car shudders in 1 and shifts horribly from 2-3. Software? Mechanical? I don't care what it is, even my Wrangler shifts smoother. I would not buy this car if I were a prospective buyer. I've read dozens of stories like mine.
