Second, I'm all OSX and iOS based and I would not even think about switching just to make a download. The irony is that that say Safari is supported and then they stuff an .exe at you.

I'm getting tempted to write Marchionne and suggest he take a look at this aspect of the operation.

I encountered similar issues earlier with my 2012 T&C (I now have a 2014 T&C and while it has a few nice features the designer should be seeking employment in another field). The 2012 continually lost all radio presets and names, phone numbers, etc. The update involved a trip to the dealer BUT USA owners got a DVD sent to them that not only had the system update, it also had a map update.

For the 2014 they downgraded the top model from a 730 to the 430 and getting phone numbers entered and accessing them is a joke. It will not download from any of our 3 cell phones YET the Cherokee took all three phones in no time at all and works great. Entering info the T&C manually is not easy. This on a vehicle that list for more than $53,000 in Canada.

Am I happy with these vehicles? Yes. Am I also annoyed, yes.

I am on OS X too (10.9.4). All you have to do is delete the .exe and the download file will open.

What I have on the thumb drive is a 484 MB file that is labelled

RA4_14_25_5.zip.part

I have yet to find a utility that can open it - but I've been at Waterford Hills Mi for two days as my son was racing there (and he set a new track record for SCCA GT2 so it was a good weekend - but tiring) so I haven't had a chance to do much looking. Only took my iPad with me.

Is this the file you downloaded that worked?

Thanks

You have a failed/incomplete download, the “.part” is what shows this. This is why you can’t extract it. If the KL runs basically the same file size as the WK2 GCs do (I would expect so) then the file size will be over 1GB. Once you have it, it will simply be RA4_14_25_5.zip and you will be able to extract the .iso with ease.

Here are some things to know about downloading it directly.
1: Their website and manner of delivery is utter crap.
2: You shouldn’t be getting .exe files if you have selected “MAC” as your OS type. MAC is not an OS, but let’s not get into that.
3: It will vary day to day as to which browser handles it best. Safari (including Windows) has been the most consistent in downloading it correctly.
4: Sometimes it will tell you there is no update, when there actually is, no idea why.
5: It helps greatly to tell your browser to load the unsafe scripts. The browsers all handle this differently, this is how it is with Chrome.

Not sure if there is a sticky for Uconnect update in the Cherokee, but have a look at this guide for the WK2, it should all be relevant as far as procedure goes - UConnect 8.4 - North America

Re: Uconnect update

My apologies for not getting back much earlier. We are on vacation in Ludington MI. We towed the Cherokee behind our motorhome and it worked GREAT - so nice to be rid of the Escape and its potential transmission issues).

I got the download to work and it was a nothing to install. I simply removed the USB thumb drive and downloaded directly to my internal drive (1TB Flash). Then I transferred the file to the thumb drive, took it out to the Cherokee and it behaved exactly as shown in the instructions and installed perfectly - apparently. The version number showing is the one specified.

Frankly, we haven't noticed any improvement in the infotainment system. Voice recognition is stlll lousy.

Re: Uconnect update

Well, I went back to the dealer to get my wife's Cherokee's first oil change ( it's on the house, so why not?). I was told I needed 2 updates, one was a trans update and the other was a radio update. Well 2 hours later, I had an oil change, a trans update that the only thing I noticed was the 1-2 shift seems to come sooner under light throttle, and it seems to be a smoother shift. And the only thing I've noticed about the radio update is I had to reset the correct time. Great job there guys!!..... What the hell?......what a waste of time!

Re: Uconnect update

Ever since I installed this last update, the presets on my FM stereo have been acting weird. My Presets number 1 and 2 always show the same station. I reset them back to what stations they are supposed to be, and the next time I start the Jeep they are both always set to whatever Preset #2 shows. Anyone else having any problems like this?
