Uconnect update

Today I received a post card note from Jeep asking me to make an appt with my dealer for a Uconnect (8.4AN or 8.4A systems) update.

"Once the update is complete, you may notice:

*Advancements in voice recognition, navigation and audio quality

*Improved touchscreen speed and accuracy

*Enhanced user experience. "

Won't be making an appointment for a couple of weeks.

Re: Uconnect update

I mentioned this notice to one of my golfing buddies today as he has a 2014 RAM. He said he got the same notice and wondered why I was going to book at the dealer rather than just download the upgrade. I said that "going to the dealer" was the only option on the card I got. He said his card said he could download from the Uconnect web site or go to the dealer.

What did everyone else get? Would be much simpler to do it at home.

Haven't got the post card--yet.
Drop the last 8 of your VIN into UConnect and see if it indicates you have an update coming.

Granted, I'm not sure downloading it from the UConnect web site is any less of a pain than going to the dealer--and UConnect does not have coffee and goodies.

Re: Uconnect update

Most folks here update the system themselves. There are a number of threads on the topic. If you become a supporting member of JeepGarage, you can download the update in the VIP section.

You can also download it from uConnect. You will need the last 8 digits of your vin.

Re: Uconnect update

My golf buddy said he tried and had no luck. I'm finding the same thing right now. Click the download button and standing still.

Watched lights on the DSL modem and little action.

Perhaps Jeep Canada doesn't trust this operation and has decided the best bet is to let the dealer do it. I'm certainly getting that feeling.

Of course, if they get us in the showroom then maybe we will buy a new vehicle. But, having replaced both of our in the past year, no chance.

Re: Uconnect update

I believe there were some of the early 2014 builds that had to be updated by the dealer, but I was hearing that about the WK2's, not the KL's.

Re: Uconnect update

If you want to do it yourself becoming a supporting member is probably the easiest. The web site makes a very simple task as absolutely convoluted and as hard as possible to download the update.

It basically comes down to taking a approximately .5GB file putting it on a memory stick and plugging it into the port on your vehicle. The website makes you download a down loader program, which is really stupid for a file of that size, if this was 2001 maybe not. Also you have to use a compatible web browser. Only one I found that works is IE8, which I can run from a XP machine we have at our office. Supposedly you can make some option changes in new browsers but I could not get it to work on any thing else I tried.

The file you download is a exe which is compressed, but only by about 30%. So adding that step seems unnecessary on a file that size. The instructions will tell you to put the file you download onto your USB stick. Don't do that, just download it anywhere extract it some where that has room and then just move the file to an empty thumb drive. They also say make sure it is at least 4GB put you really only need a 1GB.

This is pretty close. After the wife got her 2014 Cherokee, I went to the UConnect site and had to fight with it to get the download so I could update her system. I ended up having to use IE in compatibility mode to get the download moving. Once I went through the browser issues, I had no trouble getting it on the USB stick and updating the vehicle.

Re: Uconnect update

I tried to get the update through the link above and using a CHROME browser. Nothing happened after the download manager was installed. As a premium member, that link to directly download the .ISO file worked like a charm. I'm all up to date now.

That is what happens when you don't use a compatible browser.

Re: Uconnect update

I have two potential issues to address. First is that I'm in Canada and there may well be a modified version of the software for foreign markets. Uconnect is in the dark ages and doesn't use GSM so few countries outside of the US and China can use the internet features.

Second, I'm all OSX and iOS based and I would not even think about switching just to make a download. The irony is that that say Safari is supported and then they stuff an .exe at you.

I'm getting tempted to write Marchionne and suggest he take a look at this aspect of the operation.

I encountered similar issues earlier with my 2012 T&C (I now have a 2014 T&C and while it has a few nice features the designer should be seeking employment in another field). The 2012 continually lost all radio presets and names, phone numbers, etc. The update involved a trip to the dealer BUT USA owners got a DVD sent to them that not only had the system update, it also had a map update.

For the 2014 they downgraded the top model from a 730 to the 430 and getting phone numbers entered and accessing them is a joke. It will not download from any of our 3 cell phones YET the Cherokee took all three phones in no time at all and works great. Entering info the T&C manually is not easy. This on a vehicle that list for more than $53,000 in Canada.

Am I happy with these vehicles? Yes. Am I also annoyed, yes.

GR
