uConnect Updates for Australia ?

I know it's such a new car here, but I'm curious if anyone knows if the uConnect updates can apply to Australia or not ? Or would we have to go through the dealer ?

Re: uConnect Updates for Australia ?

No, you can do your own Uconnect updates.

We have always done our own on the GC (2 or 3 from memory since ownership) so I'm expecting to do it ourselves for the KL when we eventually get it.

I am one behind though at the moment on the GC - still on 14.05.03 even though I have downloaded 14.22.13. Just haven't gotten around to it and since the GC is coming up for its 30,000km service in a couple of weeks, I'll probably let the dealership to it for a change.

The process though is very simple and on average takes about 20mins.

And where do you download it from ? I just looked through the uConnect site and they have all the variations of radios but none that seem Aussie based. I understand it's a simple USB upgrade once it's done. I just don't want to go to the dealer to get it done if they'll charge me each time.

I assume it's a FAT formatted USB ?

Is there a way of finding out what version you're on right now (ie through menus on the unit ?).

We're looking at getting a 2014 Limited in the next couple of months.

Re: uConnect Updates for Australia ?

You can either download it from the Chrysler site itself and it will ask for your VIN# - here:

https://rsur.extra.chrysler.com/rsur/Uconnect.do

or as I have done, download it from JG.

What is easiest (for me and possibly you), is to become a Level 3+ member of this site and then you can download it from the VIP section. Much easier and your very small financial contribution helps towards this sites upkeep and running costs.

Yes with regards to the FAT formatted USB. I always purchased a new USB for each upgrade though. It needs to be 'clean' and I find this is the surest way.

Your current version can be displayed through the menu. Settings->System Information. The upgrade will however, display your current version compared with the version that you wish to install and ask for confirmation of that.

The install instructions are very clear and step-by-step providing screen shots along the way. You really cannot go wrong.

Re: uConnect Updates for Australia ?

PJ - I've just noticed your signature.

You've ordered - the V6 over the CRD I assume due to the Sept delivery timeline. (?)

Good colour choice. Our GC is DCR and it is a wonderful colour. I couldn't go DCR for the KL though - it just seemed a bit weird to me to have two Jeeps in the same colour sitting side by side.

Has your dealership given you a VIN/VON # yet? When you do get it, you can PM Milous and get the build-sheet and expected shipping dates.

Congrats.

Re: uConnect Updates for Australia ?

Even though diesel is appealing for economy its cost to buy and run is a bit inhibitive and we don't and won't ever tow. We were going to factory order but got told of a DCR with convenience/Tech/luxury so we pulled the trigger on it as its on the ship and didnt want to wait until February !

No VIN/VON yet as its in the ship and vins dont get put in until the compliance stage here although once we get finance approved we'll chase it down

Cant wait to upgrade from an on rhe ground level Barina to something bigger

But as I said for me personally this website is pure and utter crap , and yes I put the last 8 digits of my Vin in I tried it multiple ways .. Bah I give up the website wins

Chrysler Website - 1 / Maxy - 0

I have actually got in successfully Maxy but I agree, it is a bit hit and miss at times. Snuke has posted excellent instructions on the best way to access it with various Operating Systems - not sure where those instructions are though - buried somewhere in the posts. It's a lot easier to just gain the upgrades through JG.

PJ - that was good scoring a vehicle already loaded with your choices on the ship. I'm jealous.

When you do get delivery, can you post your thoughts after a week or two of driving. The good, bad and the indifferent...

I know it's a different engine but it would be good to hear about it anyway. I expect the Uconnect to be the same (or very similar) so not too concerned there.

It would be good to hear your POV with regards to things that are not standard on the GC. I'm specifically interested in:

- Lane Departure Warning
- Parallel and Perpendicular parking
- The Qi pad charging for the phone

Re: uConnect Updates for Australia ?

SJ and L - no worries - the Qi is definitely going to get used (well while I have my Samsung S5 for now - otherwise if I return to the iPhone world I'll get a QI card (there is one around).

The parking will be interesting - I think i'll have to test it out somewhere quiet - not going to try it in the middle of the Melbourne CBD until I'm confident.

Lane departure - I might try that one night on the way home from work (I do casual night shifts finishing at 3am so there'll be hardly anyone on the Eastern Freeway !).

I am prepared for higher petrol bills and somewhat less economy but then again the only car I've had that was ideal was my Golf Turbo Petrol - that thing could do about 700km-800km a tank !

Re: uConnect Updates for Australia ?

I managed to get the uconnect update from the link above (thanks btw!) but when I image it to the USB stick the KL refuses to see it

Congrats to OP on the new KL

The lane departure system is similar to the system used in some european cars I've driven in that it nudges you back into the lane if you drift, just don't expect it to fully steer around a bend. There's also the behind/beside you warning with the illuminated triangles in the mirrors and the audible alert, in case you drift or don't see when changing lanes.

We haven't used the Qi pad yet, just seems a little pointless when there are two USB ports in the front and the music quality is better through USB, and you get album art too.

Depending on your driving style, you might be horrified or pleasantly surprised by the V6. My other car is a diesel and it's surprised me how decent the Cherokee can be considering its size and weight. I can't help thinking that 5.8 for the 2.0L diesel is a little optimistic.
