I think Jeep still works for the Pentagon. How can you make this many vehicles and no body can find them?... no wait the government could never do that.

As a former member of the military, I can tell you that the government loses almost as much as it uses. I hope that didn't rub off on Jeep.

Re: when are they being shipped to dealers

Sent to me by my dealer today. Dated Oct 11. Given mine was ordered Aug 1 and hasn't even gone to production I guess I can kiss goodbye any chance of getting it before we depart for FLA at the end of the month. My dear wife is now wondering what I got us into.

Quote:
Chrysler is working on a problem with the programming of the Cherokee's new nine-speed transmission. (Chrysler)
Chrysler Group LLC has built more than 12,000 2014 Jeep Cherokees, but has not shipped a single one to dealers and is still working to resolve a problem with the programming of the crossover’s new nine-speed transmission.
“Chrysler Group is in the final stages of validating the updated powertrain calibrations,” said Gualberto Ranieri, vice president of communications for Chrysler, in an email to The Detroit News. “The company will not ship vehicles until we are fully satisfied the Cherokee meets customer expectations for performance, refinement and quality.”
More than three months after the vehicle went into production in Toledo, Chrysler is trying to get the transmission to shift smoothly in what CEO Sergio Marchionne has called a make-or-break vehicle for the Auburn Hills automaker, one that is key to capturing a fast-growing segment of the market.
Ranieri noted that the Cherokee is an all-new vehicle that, in addition to its all-new transmission, boasts two new powertrains and three advanced four-wheel-drive systems, all of which need to integrate flawlessly.
“Once the latest powertrain calibration is validated, the company will be able to quickly update the powertrain software on Cherokees already built and ship vehicles to dealerships around the country in quantity,” he said. ?
Chrysler has been using its factory workers to conduct extensive test drives and isolate the problem. Work on the Cherokee line was slowed last month, but never stopped — despite the absence of a fix for the problem. The line has since resumed to full production.
“The problem is the logic. Like most transmissions these days, it’s adaptive. It learns the way the customer drives and it makes the shift quality better for that type of driving,” said auto industry expert Jim Hall of 2953 Analytics LLP, who said he has heard similar reports from inside the company. “They want the transmission to be just smooth as silk, and that is apparently not the case at all.”
He believes Chrysler’s decision to hold the vehicles at the Toledo factory is the correct one.
“It’s better to delay it than to risk what happened with the (Ford) Escape,” Hall said, referring to a series of glitches that afflicted Ford Motor Co.’s new compact crossover in the months following its launch last year.
But customers are growing impatient.
Mark Orlowski, of Warren, has wanted a Cherokee since the new crossover debuted at the New York International Auto Show last March. He planned to buy one when they went on sale. Chrysler planned to begin building them in May, but a series of delays pushed the on-sale date back — first to June, then to September.
“I actually talked to a salesman yesterday. He still did not have a ship date for me,” Orlowski said Thursday, adding that he understands why Chrysler wants to hold the vehicle until the bugs are worked out. “It’s the right thing to do, but on the other hand, it makes me leery. But I can’t wait to get my hands on one and test-drive it.”
The delays also may make Chrysler miss its financial targets for the third quarter and, perhaps, the year.
“The second half (financial goal for 2013) is not doable without a proper launch of the Cherokee,” Marchionne warned in a July conference call with analysts and reporters.

If you are down here in Florida with me for a while you can request Jeep deliver the vehicle to a dealer near you.

or when it comes in just make it a fun fly-back, road trip later

That would be nice BUT then I couldn't take it back to Canada without a huge headache.

You never know you might be back home from FL by the time it comes in. I would not put it out of the question.

I agree. I've suggested to them that my son (who lives nearby) will complete the transaction as soon as it arrives. We return about the 17th of Dec for Xmas and then go back in early January. I'll simply make arrangements with the bank for him to come in and have the cheque certified and then he will take the cheque (well, check for you chaps) and the trade into the dealership and pick up the Cherokee Limited.

My dear wife was not really in agreement with getting her a new car but she sort of said "whatever you think is best dear." Then, I think I convinced her it was the right move. She likes the idea of having far more high tech stuff in her car than I have in the T&C Limited.

So, if we get the Cherokee with no screw ups, next year I'll get a Durango Citadel with all options so I can pull even with her. (provided I can convince myself that the Citadel will hold close to what the T&C does. Our 39 year old son who has Down Syndrome is always with us in our travels and at home so we have one of the rear captain's seats stowed as well as the third tow and it has room for all the c-r-a-p she takes (materials for crafting, sewing, quilting, card making etc etc. I just take a few clothes and golf clubs.

Ok... I don't do this for just anyone... but if you need to leave the Cherokee with me when you go back to Canada I'll put it in my garage with my wife's GC.

Re: when are they being shipped to dealers

If these are really going to be in dealers by the end of the month I would think they would have to start shipping this week?

Re: when are they being shipped to dealers

I'm less than 80 miles from the factory and sure wish they'd build mine and let the dealer pick it up. Then, I'd head right out to Pender NE to have the baseplates designed and installed. That would then have the baseplates show at RV outlets and a lot of potential buyers who are waiting to see if baseplates will be available will place their orders.

Guess more orders is the last thing they need now?

GR

ps. We will drive right by the factory on the way the FLA.
