Where's the ECO message?!

Hi all, I am enjoying my Cherokee, however noticed an issue. I've had it for 6 months and not once had the ECO message pop up on the odometer as suggested on page 112 of the owners manual. I'm not an aggressive driver and the manual says getting ECO message on the odometer will show up when you are driving in a fuel efficient manner. Help. Chrysler customer service says it doesn't exist but obviously the owners manual says otherwise. Again help appreciated.

Re: Where's the ECO message?!

Since no other replies...
I don't have my Cherokee yet so I can't test but you've obviously seen the user guide (it's not in the owner's manual which is curious). The on-line version of the UG describes ECO Message on page 115. Do any of the steering wheel controls or programmable features provide a way to turn the ECO Message on/off?

ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER (EVIC)
• The EVIC features a driver interactive
display that is located in the instrument
cluster. Pushing the controls on
the left side of the steering wheel allows
the driver to select vehicle information
and Personal Settings. For additional
information, refer to
Programmable Features in this guide.
• Push and release the UP button to
scroll upward through the main menus
(MPH/km/h, Vehicle Info, Fuel
Economy, Trip A, Trip B, Audio, Stored
Messages, Screen Set Up).
• Push and release the DOWN button
to scroll downward through the main
menu and submenus (MPH/km/h, Vehicle
Info, Fuel Economy, Trip A, Trip B, Audio, Stored Messages, Screen Set Up).
• Push and release the RIGHT button to access the information screens or
sub-menu screens of a main menu item.
• Push the BACK/LEFT button to access the information screens or sub-menu
screens of a main menu item.
• Push the OK button to access/select the information screens or sub-menu screens of a main menu item. Push and hold the OK arrow button for two seconds to reset displayed/selected features that can be reset.

PROGRAMMABLE FEATURES
Uconnect® Customer Programmable Features
• The Uconnect® system allows you to access Customer Programmable feature settings such as Display, Clock, Safety/Assistance, Lights, Doors & Locks, Auto-On Comfort & Remote Start, Engine Off Operation, Compass Settings, Audio, Trailer Brake, Phone/Bluetooth®, Suspension and SiriusXM Setup and System Information through soft-keys.

Re: Where's the ECO message?!

Thank you for the reply but I have to emphasize this is the OWNERS MANUAL U. S. 2nd edition page 112. Not sure why there is a discrepancy but this is very frustrating. Bump please.

Re: Where's the ECO message?!

The on-line version of the OM is the 5th edition. Check it out. Jeep Owners | Download an Owners Manual 2004 - 2011 | Jeep
Chrysler Customer Service is probably right. The OM 2nd version was corrected. Mention of ECO in the UG 4th edition has now been removed.

Re: Where's the ECO message?!

I read somewhere on another Jeep forum that it was never actually programmed in. Was an early idea that never materialized even though it made it to some manuals. Appears it is not something that actually happens.

To me it is no big deal. It isn't something that would frustrate me as it is just a message about something you are doing. It isn't something that actually mechanically impacts your MPG. I know what I have to do to drive and get good MPG. The dash telling me I am doing it isn't something I need.

Now if ECO mode meant there was some kind of mechanical thing that got activated that helped my MPG, vs a message basically saying "good job", I might feel different.

Re: Where's the ECO message?!

Are you sure you are on the correct forum? The 2014 Cherokee Owner's Manual Second Edition has info about Child Restraints from pages 112-116.

There is no ECO mode in the Cherokee. There is an ECO mode on/off setting in the EVIC on the [2011] Grand Cherokee with the Hemi V-8.

Yes I'm positive. I'll post a pic. Page 112, US Second Edition. May be a typo, but it's there.

Sorry to repeat what has already been said but, are you absolutely sure? I have both the 2nd and 5th edition online manuals and there is no mention of ECO in the 2nd edition (I did a search) and page 112 does talk about child seats.

You're looking online, I'm looking at hardcopy that was included when we purchased the vehicle. Sorry, but yes I'm positive.

No need to be sorry . Must have been a typo or something that was incorrectly included. Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Re: Where's the ECO message?!

Is everybody talking about the owners manual or the users guide. My understanding is that like te Grand Cherokee, the Cherokee 'owners manual' that was delivered with the vehicle was on a DVD. The printed version needed to be ordered. A printed 'users guide' is supplied with the vehicle.
