2014 diesel filler size

So while we (CRD buyers) are all waiting for our beloved jeeps to be built/re-appear from the twilight zone, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the capless diesel filler gizmo in the CRD. Does it have the anti-stupid stuff the EU imported TDI/BT have put in their '14 models that restricts you to only be able to fill from a 15/16" nozzle? Maybe Jeep engineers did us a favor and left this alone with a nice, wide inlet so we can fill up at a 1-1/4" truck-stop nozzle without the need for all sorts of adapters and funnels (I know we have one but it's really only for emergencies).

Re: 2014 diesel filler size

AFAIK, it's designed for the "auto" sized nozzle and some kind of funnel is required if you have to fill from a "truck" sized filler.

Re: 2014 diesel filler size

Our 2008 CRD has the smaller nozzle and I'm guessing the 2014s will be the same. I'll check it out at my biodiesel cardlock station once my 2014 arrives since they have both sizes of pumps right next to each other.

Re: 2014 diesel filler size

A C&D review of the 2014 diesel JGC said that they borrowed a BMW adapter when they encountered the large fueling nozzle. I also saw where a BMW owner said that the VW TDI adapter fits the BMW, so I assume that the TDI adapter fits the Jeep. I plan on getting one for my diesel Limited. The adapter is about $12.

Poking around online it looks like they average $9 plus shipping.

UPDATE.
The adapter is not needed. WILLX tested a new CRD with a large fueling nozzle. It fits.

Re: 2014 diesel filler size

Interesting. I've seen three size diesel nozzles:

Auto (normal flow)

Large (high flow)

"We'll put this thing on the tip of the nozzle so these friggin 4 wheelers won't come to this pump" size (same flow as large)

I wonder which large size one Willx encountered...

I would bet this is to prevent the station from being liable when someone in a car uses it at full flow and overfills to due not cutting off in time and spray diesel everywhere.

No issue going into a big tank of a tractor trailer.

Re: 2014 diesel filler size

All I can say is be careful. Some night when you are really tired, and go to fill up, and you go for the green pump handle, then you realize you are at a gas station that uses the green for regular unleaded, and yellow for diesel. I still say they should mandate green for diesel. In MN, BP uses green for regular unleaded. Everyone else uses the green for diesel.

I've been driving diesels for 12 years and have yet to put gas in mine. The diesel handles are visibly a little greasy on the ground and attract dirt since spilled diesel evaporates in hours not seconds. The motors may be cleaner, more powerful, and quiet...but the fuel is still the same. I don't mind. I like the smell.

Re: 2014 diesel filler size

All the CRDs exported take the small 15/16" nozzle, I have had the 2011 CRD and now the 2014 CRD, I was disappointed at first but am now used to filling up for a few extra minutes. No real drama, the only issue I found in my opinion is the CAP was a better option than the CAPLESS type filler, the reason is with mine it just isn't a clean instant seal when the nozzle is released and I get a little diesel spill that needs wiping up at each fill.
P.S ( I should have read the brochure on filling as well, quite a shock the first time I opened the filler door, I thought the dealer had knocked off the cap. Took some getting used to not having one. )
