Re: 2014 diesel production

I'm actually not referring to Fuel Economy...my reference is pertaining to Emissions...completely different animals.

You don't have a Federal Emissions Sticker or California Emissions Sticker? Then you don't operate on US Roads...

Re: 2014 diesel production

The fuel economy estimates have gotten a couple manufacturers in trouble- I think they were actually sued & fined for claiming elevated economy. I've been told that many diesels have even better fuel economy than what is listed on the sticker- not sure why that would be.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Because the EPA tests are cyclic - lots of accel and decal rather than getting on a flat interstate, point at the horizon, and set the cruise.

The testing cycle is standardized.... diesels have certain advantages to the way they produce torque levels at RPMs that are a better advantage in real world driving. Good example that at 65mph most diesels are idling just shy of 2000 RPMs which would be the peak torque.... not explaining the whole wind drag thing a gas engine is not in the optimal torque range at this speed but at the lower wind force level of 50-55 (somebody help me with the spa highway speed here). The gas engine will do better in that range.... but which do you do more of on open highway 65 or 50..... thus the problem with the gas testing that the diesel shines.

That is the short and dirty.... if someone wants a better explanation I will do a proper write up with the actual EPA specs.

But I will say this...there is very little difference between what my ML Bluetec did fuel economy wise from 60mph to 80mph..... try that in a gas engine.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I'm confused, somewhere (maybe not here) the rumor was that the engine didn't have Emissions Certification for Highway Use in the US. Not sure how that equates to MPG estimates...

Now then, can somebody confirm why the delay to Q3?

You are correct no EPA and that is "likely" part of the delay.

Well, not exactly.... everyone knows that baby unicorns are brought up on pixie dust, and the droughts in Narnia severely impacted the pixie dust crop last year, leading to a shortage of mythical unicorns, ahem, Jeep CRDs, this year. It makes perfect sense.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I am not sure where to post this, but I guess this is fine.

Just test drove a Porsche Cayenne diesel. I can see why diesel advocates like this kind of engine. No need for a V8, really.

One thing that the GC cannot do like the Cayenne is to go around curves fast without fear of overturning. I guess the suspension is where Porsche is good at. However, the inside felt narrow and I could barely see through the back window.

Well, I guess the next SUV to test drive is the MB.

Well, I guess as long as you look at the badge on the hatch and never open the hood... the ones that the US press has been getting clearly say "CRD" on the engine cover.

I don't believe that will be the release product...... OMFG... you figured it out. They don't have "diesel" covers, they all say CRD! Quick call china get some formed plastics entourage asap....

Anyway JK

Just keeping it straight because Marlon will know when the EcoDiesel builds but as he points out the CRD is currently building.
