Re: 2014 diesel production

Waited 8 months to order - check
Visited every dealer in the state and then some - check
8 more weeks of sleepless nights due to excitement - check
Getting the Jeep of your dreams - priceless

VONs galore! All the dealers I spoke to but two offered me MSRP even with an affiliate control number. Ended up with a deal significantly better than the affiliates program guarantees. Can't wait to take delivery!

That would be rainbows and skittles not bubbles.

Exactly.. Well sorta.. Specific (high volume) dealers have little to do with the first launch formula.. For example, there's a dealer here abt 30 mins north of Detroit that claims to be the highest volume dealer in the country (or maybe in MI?... I can't remember), but if the marketing team decides that they want to first launch the diesel in areas that it'd do best, based off data available to them, and MI isn't on that list, then this (unnamed) dealer can put an order in for 50 of em, and marketing may choose to overlook that and build other orders first for the projected launch areas. I suspect states with high altitudes such as Colorado to be on that list.

If you remember, Chevrolet did this with the Volt. First ones went to specific states, of which California I believe was one.. And so on. Then they began to ship all over... Orders can be accepted nationwide, but if your state isn't on the initial launch list, then somebody who orders 2 weeks from now from a low volume dealer in say, Montana, could very well get their Jeep before you.

The high/low volume dealer thing plays a part in what gets built for the initial launch only if said dealers are within the projected 'launch zones.'

Re: 2014 diesel production

Dev,

Ya that was what I was getting at... Volume is not key, but I certainly know of more than one dealer that initially were not going to get a Diesel in the first couple of alotments who agreed to take some extra Durangos and then got preference.

They want to sell them to the areas that are going to soak them up but certainly Chrysler will bend to dealers willing to take other stock they need to move. I always find the Rep distribution game so interesting!

Thanks for the Feedback!

Re: 2014 diesel production

Oh, now I can definitely see that happening!.. Any dealer willing to take on a few extra '13 Durango's when the public knows the '14s are mere weeks away, deserves a piece of the first allocation pie, as well as a gold star smack dab on the owners forehead! Lol..

I will tell him you said that.... But honestly, the distribution is about 60% science and 56.7534% games. Yes, that number is correct, because according to the regional reps, they have the POWER!

On my way to the dollar store to get a gold star for my dealer buddy.

All along during the wait my dealer kept asking his rep in Texas when the CRD would launch. The reply, even the day before, was always "not sure it will be available anytime soon".

Ok, I work in distribution and wasn't born yesterday. Based on Chevy's explanation of how factory reps control distribution, the info my dealer was getting was designed to manage his expectations. In other words, he's not getting allocation anytime soon so don't expect anything. Other dealers, targeted to get allocation, where getting totally different answers.

I'm doomed. Lol!

Not really, speak with your dealer and have him talk to his rep, if there is something that your dealer could do to get your truck allocated now is the time to discuss it (this coming week)... Not saying it can change anything but worth the time to discuss it.

Re: 2014 diesel production

How long after the dealer places the order before you should get a VON? Just wondering if it's instant or does it take a couple hours?

Seeing as the stats seem to indicate 1 out of every 4 or 5 pickup trucks is sold in Texas, and the same motor will be going into the ram any moment now... I could see your region being on the higher priority end of the list.
