Well, I guess the next SUV to test drive is the MB.
The MB is quicker.... but you don't need a PHD to figure out what button to press like Cayenne.

Just keeping it straight because Marlon will know when the EcoDiesel builds but as he points out the CRD is currently building.
I would not be the least bit surprised if the US production ones say "diesel" on them... in fact I think I remember seeing one that way somewhere on the internets.

Since air drag is a function of the square of the speed and a GC approximates a barn door, the only way I can see the above would be if something terrible was happening at 60.

Also just about everything is under 2000 rpm at 70 these days, my 88 coupe pulls smoothly from 1200 rpm at 45. Of course to do that it is ded at 4800.

The VVT i&e that the DOHC V6 allows provides a very broad torque range to 6400 rpm but cruise is not at WOT (well, a diesel is) so fractional power efficiency is more important - you do not need 260 or 420 lb-ft of torque for a 65 mph cruise on the flats, more like 50-65 lb-ft. For MPG you design for 65 lb-ft at 1750 rpm. The V8 deactivales four cyl because gas engine efficiency inproves with load.

Could be a lot of reasons for the delay but would wager it is a marketting issue and not technical.

Sorry I was comparing fuel economy posted on a gas engine to that on a diesel from the EPA and the difference in capabilities to meet or exceed this ratings nothing to do with the other 2 engines and my RPMs were very likely off the mark.

Also Marlon very much confirmed the delay was mainly due to no EPA cert but you may be correct it might not be technical.... maybe clerical.

CRD is the type of Diesel engine, Common Rail Diesel (CRD) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_rail

Jeep also uses CRD as the badge on the export model, Ecodiesel is the badge in North America. EcoDiesel is a marketing name similar to Fords EcoBoost or VW's TDI.

Yes I am aware... Marlon was simply pointing out that we need to stop asking about the CRD. It will never be referred to that here..... nobody calls the new Benz a CRD either it is now Bluetec.

Back to marketting again. The fact that it is called a EctoDiesel has nothing to do with the fact that it is a CRD (like most passenger car diesels that control the injection at the nozzle). My RV TD is not a CRD because control is at the pump.

If you want to talk about impressive, try a 6300 lb RV on 115hp that can make the ton but I'm biased.

Just do a search on "jeep ecodiesel solenoid" it is aparently not piezoelectric: " High pressure MultiJet II common-rail injectors, carried over from FIAT technology, feed solenoid valves at a whopping 29,000psi." (see here ).

My 88 Buick has port injection with solenoids at each port but is only around 40 psi. You need more because the diesel is direct chamber injection on the compression stroke and must be able to withstand combustion pressure.

Incidently the GM Duramax also operates at 29,000 psi.
