I think we're all just guessing! Perhaps more scheduling will occur tomorrow.

So some dealers couldn't order on the 9th or at all during this first month. I don't understand why Chrysler would prevent a dealer from ordering a sold vehicle. I know my order is coded as a sold vehicle. I would think it would be first come first served on the 9th.

I guess it would explain why some dealers were able to order early in the morning while other dealers had to wait until later. This is what it seems like to me now that I think about the way things transpired on the 9th. They said the ordering person was going to call the rep to find out why she couldn't order. I was at the dealer and had to go home empty handed. An hour later they called and said it was ordered. I never found out the details nor did I care once I had a VON.

One thing is for sure, if my dealer said I couldn't order on the 9th, I would have gone to another dealer faster than the new ZF 8 speed tranny shifts from one gear to the next.

I'm learning far more than I should be about this stuff.

You mean they could order but without an allotment they wouldn't have production scheduled? Or do you mean all dealers have received an allotment.

I'm trying to understand what you meant by "if the dealer doesn't receive allotment it won't get scheduled".

Re: 2014 diesel production

Hi all,

I ordered my diesel Overland Aug 12th and recieved my "production scheduled" message along with a VIN today. According to my dealer I'm the first, and so far the only one, to order a diesel through them.

2014 Overland, ATG, ORII, Deep Cherry Red, Tan Interior

Congrats! I think we ordered the exact same Jeep. Let me know how it is when you get it and hopefully mine won't be far behind

I'm trying to understand what you meant by "if the dealer doesn't receive allotment it won't get scheduled".
If a product is open to order, all dealers can order that product. It is not like one dealer goes in and is not permitted to order it. So let's say you own a small dealership in the middle of nowhere and your rep says you are not going to get any allotment for a 2014 SRT (I use this example because I can personally say I have seen this but it applies to a diesel the same way). You get somebody who walks in the day the SRT orders open up and wants to put money down. You tell him there is limited allotment and there might be a wait, if the customer is OK with that take his deposit and enter the order and yes, give him the VON.... It is his sold order.

Once the first week of ordering has gone by they review the numbers and assess allotment. Good or poor selling vehicle they are going to produce what they planned even if the numbers are of slightly. The order in your system would show as BX (I think, I don't actually work with orders for dealers) and that code means good order, ok to schedule and or it could be labelled BE which means build error because of a restriction. Now here is where the dealer games begin.

You call your rep and say I have a sold SRT order and it is just sitting there... Of course they know this but Chrysler actually has some product being produced that is above the allotment (this has happened with Dart and with Durango). The build outs (final run of that model year for 2013) are scheduled but they know there are going to be extras. Your rep says ok, you take 2 x 2013 darts and an extra 2013 Durango and I will get your SRT scheduled. As long as you enter your orders for these products you are off to the races.

The other thing that can happen is a few dealers don't take their entire allotment. Pretty rare if it is a new launch product that has some hype but sometimes people just screw up. So in this case the order would also possibly suddenly get allotment. Chrysler has many years of experience with the SRT demand and can figure that distribution down to a science. The diesel is more of a scientific guess so there will be some adjustment.

So given all of those variables and the fact that any dealer can sell more cars by getting creative on what they don't necessarily need, this is dealer 101. If you work a little you can get more cars sold and down the road, but frankly lots of dealers are just lazy. Before you criticize my thinking on taking a 2013 Durango you should read those treads and how many people would have gladly taken a wicked deal on a 2013 but again dealers just were not coming to the table with good offers. So moral of my long winded explanation, take every customer who comes in the door seriously and do your best to get them their vehicle and you will make money..... I know of one store that sold 102 vehicles in 2011-2012 fiscal. Under new management they now do 60-75 new vehicles a month. They couldn't get allotment before and they can now. All that was is a change in attitude towards the customer.

Re: 2014 diesel production

This is interesting. MOTS still showing Pre Release (sure it will change with next update). I got an e-mail from Jeep saying it has moved to production as of 7:30 am. VOTS show it is in paint. I thought the production was not going to start till the 26th. Are they really building these things 10 days before previously scheduled?
