I must not have been clear. The fifth rim and tire I talked about purchasing will be my new spare. The Original spare will then sit in storage with the other 4 wheels until I sell the car. So I don't care what the spare looks like; I won't be using it. However if a full sized tire and rim doesn't fit it the space, I will be stuck with the original spare and not rotating.
If I'm not mistaken, you may be able to fit an identical wheel/tire in the spare space if you remove the "organizational inserts" (it's a hair bigger in diameter), but it will also be taller than the standard full-size spare that comes with the vehicle. I believe someone posted photos of this awhile back. The cover will not sit down flush with the wider tires that are on the "outside" wheels if my memory serves. The factory full-size spare is a narrower tread.

Thanks, I might go and check the size of one of those full sized spares on my way home. I did have the thought "a full sized spare" was not full sized. I do remember the discussion now about the cover not fitting now. I'll probably abandon any thought of replacing the spare, since a true full sized spare won't fit in the well.

On second thought I won't check out the spare on the way home, as I have annoyed my dealer enough over the past 7 months...

Re: 2014 diesel production

Think of it as saving you a few hundred bucks by just using the factory full-size spare which you hopefully, will never need.

As to annoying your dealer...it's, um...payback. Heh...heh...

Re: 2014 diesel production

This is my first post on the Jeep Garage! Thank you all for the insight...you all have answered countless questions for me! I ordered the CRD JC Overland and have been tracking the VOTS. I am curious what the MOTS everyone is referring to is. Is there another place to check the progress of my vehicle?

Thanks

DAMCB (Limited CRD - White), you just went D1. You are the 6th CRD and 5th Limited in D1!

MOTS is "Milous Online Tracking System" which a service available to Premium Level III site supporters. He tracks vehicles from "inside" the plant and with more updates and detail especially after final assembly.

Sign up as a Level 3+ and send Milous a private message with the following:

VON or VIN from VOTS
your order date
Trim level (Limited, Overland, Summit) and CRD or not.
Color.

Thanks !!! When I checked MOTS about 4 AM PDT today it showed no movement from PR. I got an e-mail from VOTS @ 5 AM that production was scheduled and checked back with MOTS and found that I had moved to D1 with a delivery date of 20 Sep to the left coast. You all can tell that I'm not to excited about the Grand Cherokee and only check on it's progress 30-40 times each day. I keep my tablet next to the bed so I can take a quick look when I get up to water the horse which happens more often the older I get.

MOTS is a blessing and a curse. I look at it way too often.

Depending on the tire you choose a 265 width will fit in the spare wheel well, I have BFG AT's 265/65/18 on the standard steel spare rim (I removed the organisational cubbys) and it fits and the cover closes flush same as the 245 original spare, it just depends how much the side walls bow out on the tire you choose as to weather the cover will close

I only know what I thought I read....help a brother out. How DOES he track via MOTS? Don't want to mislead.
