Re: 2014 diesel production

Is it too much to ask for the topic to stay...on topic?

I can crash any vehicle given the right situation...and the old school "Ford Explorer" test was proven to be BullshXt too...

But I thought this was a thread on ... wait for it... 2014 Diesel Production...

Maybe those guys were Volvo engineers.

True, sorry Sunday Morning OCD kicked in when I read the moose test comment and I needed to response!

Ahem... Diesel Production, they are all being exported presently and there is no more information on this until likely late this month.

Isn't that interesting that you had asked to stay on topic then you proceeded to fail the "moose test" and veer off track and roll over commenting about the explorer.

Ah come on, don't bust up the new guy for trying to keep us on thread.... Maybe he didn't lurk before hand to see our impatience, crying, misery, disappointment, excitement and back to crying. He doesn't know yet how emotionally damaged the Diesel waiters (haha rhymes with haters lol) are and that we grasp at straws every day hoping as someone else put it "the Detroit Oracle (Milous)" comes to us with promising news.

I will just go back to knitting Jeep Scarfs while I wait Chivalry poem please.

It is pure torture
The long diesel wait drags on
Any distraction is welcome

Re: 2014 diesel production

I suspect the moose test was with a diesel. Or would you rather segue into Ralph the Wonder Llama ?

My RV is a turbo diesel and could get 30 mpg in 1986 (more like high 20's now) but the Jeep non-CRD sounds like a much better design. The question is whether it will be as reliable as my BMW-Steyr. Can say that control of EGT is critical for a TD to prevent head failures particularly in a heavy vehicle with aluminum heads.

Mine has dual radiators and I drive to keep the coolant temperature under 200F. However head temps can spike much faster than the coolant will see. The only real answer is to monitor EGT upstream of the turbo.

Re: 2014 diesel production

It doesn't really matter what is discussed in this thread unless or until someone comes up with a "real" production date for the ... for the ... what were we talking about?

Re: 2014 diesel production

It was some sort of oil burning device, wasn't it?

I was leaning towards that concept myself in my response. I was just excited someone brought up the moose test and I could go into verbal diarrhea on the like 3 months of reading into that.

You may have missed this bit:

My Explorer most definitely does not have a "few years" left. The sea air has ravaged the old girl. The power steering hard lines rusted through and burst, the brake hard lines rusted through and burst, the a/c compressor rusted and seized, the rear doors can no longer be opened, the hydraulic lift gate arm rusted through and broke off so I have to prop up the rear gate with a stick, the mechanic needed a hammer and chisel to get my wheels off last time, just yesterday the screws holding the plastic molding on the roof rusted through and the molding flew off, I literally shovel up rusted bits that fall off in the driveway on a semi-regular basis ...

My normal mechanic now flat-out refuses to do any more work on the car and insists I must replace it immediately. The mechanic I just took it to for the brake line failure says it "scares the hell out of him" and can't believe I'm actually driving it.

I really want the jeep diesel, but if my feet go through the floor ala Fred Flinstone before the diesel is released I may have to either go with a different manufacturer or go for the hemi.
