Well I wouldn't say he was entirely off base.. He just got the steps mixed up a bit. He was confusing 'production scheduled' with D1 status.

Production scheduled is when the process of gathering parts BEGINS. Not ends. D1 comes when those parts are gathered and the car is (typically) within 2-3 weeks of beginning production. HOWEVER, even with D1 status, those parts don't necessarily have to be IN the plant yet. As Willx and Excursion have explained, bc of the JIT delivery process, they can simply be on the way.

So, one may be wondering, "well my car is in D1, so if that's true, then my parts should still get there and they can build mine. " And so as to prevent having to respond to such an assumption, I'll tell you now it's not that simple. There are A LOT more variables in the equation. Especially when something like this happens.. Which is why I never hang much weight on the tracking status'.

I recall when we transitioned to JIT Logistics in the Air Force. We renamed it "Almost Never In Time". The mechanics used to hide parts in various locations around the hangers including the false ceilings in the hanger offices just to keep the aircraft flyable.
When we ferried an aircraft to Depot for overhaul the maintenance folks would give us a list of parts to pilfer because the Depot was authorized to keep a large inventory of parts on hand. I miss the days when you could just go to "the person" in the warehouse who knew where everything was at and always had just what you needed.

Since all the cool kids hang out here I guess I have to keep an eye out here as to when production starts again. The Durango I have on order "had" an est ship date of 9/3, but was still D1. Guess I will be making my Sept Loan payment on my WK1 SRT.

If it goes on too long Chrysler should be able to demand removal of any of the tooling required to make the bracket and engage another supplier.
