Re: 2014 diesel production

Rich x 76 said that he was wondering if he'd be able to put a hitch on the Trailhawk II.

I know it didn't have one for the Moab testing but I can't picture a Grand Cherokee without a hitch. They'd have to have one at least as an optional towing package, right? What's the point of getting a diesel in anything if you're not really going to tow?

Scott, Chevy, Marlon, Milous, please advise.

My 2012 crd has no tow hitch, bought the crd because it was simply a more enjoyable drive over the petrol v6 and v8, especially over the petrol v6, the economy is just a bonus for me.

I absolutely agree with you. Those are all reasons why I am getting the diesel in addition to the towing. I would probably get a diesel if I never towed anything however they would be missing out on many who would get the diesel b/c they need to tow something.

I don't think the tow package would restrict clearance at all on the Trailhawk II as the hitch is set right behind the bumper on the regular GCs.

Did you get an aftermarket hitch?

Re: 2014 diesel production

Key is the factory hitch is inline and fits inside the "frame rails". It does require modification of the rear facia.

Some of the aftermarket hitches cantilever under the rear facia and with a lot fewer bolts. I suspect there would have been a lot more undercarriage damage when I was rearended by a F*rd 150 truck if it did not have the factory setup.

That said everything underneath my '12 is designed for the factory hitch with holes in all the right places. I cannot imagine that being designed out of the Trailhawk but would have to see one to know.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Spoke with someone at Chrysler HQ that has "senior" in his title. Says Ecodiesel production is slated to start in September with order date in August, but state as always, that could change.

Do you have connections at CDJ... if not that may still be the standard answer. Should wait and see what Milous, Marlon and clan say. They always have better than public info seeing as they are JNAP/CDJ

Re: 2014 diesel production

Scott is tuned in to what is going on at Jeep. Although I kidded him about them waiting to get it perfect, I wouldn't dismiss what he says as mere hearsay.
