At least in "E"... at least it... well... exists and isn't just a computer file or something.

That's my thing.

Now if you drive it on the floor...cool it down.

Here in Florida, most of the time, I don't think it's ever cold enough to worry too much about that. Is there a gauge that shows the temperature of the turbocharger? This would be cool so we could know precisely when it was safe to power down.

Side fact I learned: In California, new trucks automatically shut down after 5 minutes. (California Guaranteed dead dog feature.) I thank god I live in Florida with laws like this in other states. In the future all trucks will come with an APU like jets do. APUs,(generators), in trucks aren't governed by any regulations right now.

I get it, the tangible stuff.... but I think unless you have seen it the VIN seems tangible.

There typically is no temperature probe on an automotive duty turbo. You may elect to install a thermocouple in the exhaust pipe or exhaust manifold to monitor exhaust gas temperatures. This is commonly done on heavy duty diesel pickups that tow heavy. The rule of thumb is to keep the gauge out of the red zone which is 1200 F. The turbo blades start to aneal and soften if they are baked long enough. It takes 30 seconds or more before this is a problem.

The stock tuning typically won't add enough fuel to get that hot. A tuned diesel on higher output settings can get to 1300+ in 5 seconds! Damage begins after 30 seconds which is plenty of time to reach stupid speeds when unloaded. (Dragrace?) Pulling a trailer up a long hill can cook a turbo on a tuned truck quickly.

If you drag race or tow heavy, especially with a tuner on high settings, a pyrometer gauge is a handy thing to have.

Welcome to the world of diesels

If you come up at all it means you're at least "D" pre-release. If you do not come up on VOTS then it means you are not, (I hate to say it), part of the first month's allocation. I don't know when it opens for September maybe the third which is Tuesday, my guess is you will go to "D" next week if you're not already there. Some have gone from Ordering to "D1" in a few days.
Thanks. I check MOTS and VOTS daily, as it seems everyone else here does also. VOTS has no listing for me. I tried the 800# on the VOTS site but all they could do was tell me to confirm with my dealer. I will try the 1997 # that you listed tomorrow. I suspect that you are right and I will be with next months allocation. I have waited this long, I can wait an extra month.

Re: 2014 diesel production

So you guys think you are loosing your mind by checking VOTS and MOTS every waking moment.........Just wait............Till Milous sends you your build sheets. I have read them (4 pages) at least 10 times in the past 24 hours. It gives you every little detail of your JGC. Re-reading it almost becomes obsessive. Great to know it is built, but makes the anticipation that much harder (but sweeter). Congrats on all the people moving into production.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Marlon or Chevy, can you guys answer a question for me? Is True Blue an uncommon color that does not get produced very often?
I have the feeling this is delaying my production date.

Right now we are living through you. So in advance, I am telling you now, on delivery we want at least 3 pictures, your overall impression, and especially a very detailed description of what it feels like to pull out and put the pedal to the metal.

Having nothing else to do, I have read these manuals and can assure you that they state "the diesel engine has no break in period". You can hit it from day one.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Just musing why the Overland CRDs have been so slow to move from "pre-release. Perhaps it's a supply issue, i.e., a shortage of "Overland" badges, they ran out of thread to stitch the seams on the leather dash, somebody forgot to order the edge welting for the leather seats, Google pre-empted this months allocation for a corporate buy of Overlands they're going to convert to driverless diesels?

I may be one of the first in Jeep Garage to have my JGC in final inspection, but we have to see how long it is in final inspection. Being one of the first, they may spend more time inspecting to make sure all the bugs are worked out for when they build your JGC's. For all I know, you may get yours before mine. I have a vacation in a few weeks, and hope I can fly down to pick it up at that time. Fingers crossed
