I bet Willx is onto something. He mentioned JNAP had a few days of lost production from the seat shortage plus a holiday. Things will begin moving soon. For those of us in D1, seeing new D1's means ours are hopefully moving ahead.

Tomorrow might be that day.

Re: 2014 diesel production

You guys do realize that we ONLY make 1204/day and just picked up Russian builds. I don't think the line can run any faster than it does right now. The conveyor motors would probably all blow up at the same time if we hired more people and turned the speed up!

HANG ON, we're going to build your Jeep. We are only one plant and we sold 17,000 of the 28,896 we (can) make per month in the US last month alone. 1 out of 5 we sell are Durangos, so throw that into the mix too. Plus we're launching 2014 Durangos all at the same time.

126 other countries need us too...

BTW: The line conveyor motors HAVE "blown up" before...

Dunno whether to tell you guys that you suck or thank you for ordering so many vehicles that it even drives the mechanics of JNAP crazy! LOL

Re: 2014 diesel production

Actually we have the capability to make well over 30k a month.. They just favor this 3/2/120 schedule so much that they're willing to sacrifice the added production. But 24/7 is the way to go in a high volume plant. Just ask Ford. And most, if not all suppliers work 24/7 days... Sacrificing production to cut OT is the epitome of tripping over a dollar to pick up a dime.

I'm well aware of that, but our wonderful employer refuses to pay OT (even though they have to anyway, look at my paychecks for proof), or 10% shift premiums...

JNAP has the ability to produce up to 34,416/month WITHOUT working a single Sunday, but hey......... $$$$$$$$.

The number could go even HIGHER if there was such a thing as a "tag relief" team... instead of the line running, hire people to give each employee their required break at different times to keep the line running.

The numbers would easily approach 40k/yr if we really REALLY needed to.

Re: 2014 diesel production

There's just still too many short sighted ppl at the controls. Idk how far up the ladder the short-sightedness goes, but obviously it's pretty far. But it's simple math.

Each of the automakers like to make a big deal about how the tiered pay scale is working, as if they weren't making insane amounts of money in the late 90s-07. And that was back when everybody was making $30+ AND taking home $8-10k profit sharing checks. So it wasn't the labor. It was the economy. I was watching Morning Joe the other day when they had their "Detroit special" (from a plant thats not in Detroit, in a city closer to Toledo mind you), and Steve Rattner kept asking about whether the workers pay was ever gonna go back up and Alan Mullally kept ducking the question. But it's not just Ford. They're all singing the same sad tune.. it's, "oh we're only able to make it bc of the new system. 2-tier is great. Look we just added more underpaying jobs! " Pffft.. Blow me, ok. Everybody at the top is eating good, and the workers can barely afford to buy any of the cars they build. It's the new 'Merica.

So as this relates to our schedule (and Jeep production), I guess it's profitable in the short term to cut out our OT, and award themselves bigger bonus checks, but in the long term they lose thousands of units of production just bc they wanna keep money out of our pockets... I highly doubt we'll make as many cars this year as we did in 2010 or 2011. And THAT falls squarely on them!

And the change in quality, and turnover rate of workers.. Well that's a thread in itself.

The new workers may not be able to afford the cars they build but every welfare mom in my town drives a new Charger with 22's. Welcome to the new America!

Oh do NOT get me started on that!!!!

That needs a new topic, seriously! How am I not able to afford 26s and $2000 worth of clothes to wear at any given point in time *and* food stamps and I'm wearing stuff from the clearance rack and I work 40 hours a week and more!!!!

Re: 2014 diesel production

They just did a welfare study, and found people on welfare make out better than people working minimum wage at 40+ hours a week, by almost double.
The executives at large corporations are making out like bandits, while the working man has to struggle to make ends meet.
Eventually, this is going to catch up, and I see the workers retaliating.
Without people working the line, the company is worthless. Just need to get the executives to see this reality.

Shannon - just letting you know that we're watching from 'down-under' and waiting for you to take delivery. (Well I am at least and I think there is another member as well watching and waiting with you. )

You'll love it (and we expect reports on how you find it).
