My order is the first customer order for a Diesel they received... Which would lead me to believe that demand for diesels (at least here in NYC area) is not that high

They also gave me 3% below invoice with little haggling - that probably confirms they don't have a lot of customers for the diesel.
Just wait till they release ours and the marketing blitz starts. These things are going to be the hottest thing around.

Diesels appeal to different people for different reasons....but I suspect most of us are high mileage drivers. I doubt there are as many of us in urban areas....and even less in inner cities.

I wonder how well diesel pickups sell for non-commercial use in NYC? A significant number of us have owned or still own other diesel vehicles.

And that is why SOLD orders should ship now! We could be creating demand sooner.

My guess (which is as likely wrong as correct) is that Jeep is going to have a tough time convincing the average SUV buyer that paying $4-$5k more so they can pay 10 - 50 cents more per gallon to save 20 - 30% on fuel will be a tough sell. I think we are the obsessive minority who want a diesel for other reasons. I've been noticing more GCs on the road now than I used to, just because I"m paying more attention now. I see the most Laredos, then Limiteds, an occasional Overland and a rare Summit. This tells me the vast majority want to pay the least they can to get into a GC. Why can't Jeep sell a diesel for the same or less than a gasser like Mercedes does with their GLK350? Only time will tell what the market has to say....

All I am going to say is 30% minimum... 35-40 if you carry weight or drive very fast.

Real world experience will change that for people.

Re: 2014 diesel production

No diesel buyers?

So why do we have 12,000 orders?

Re: 2014 diesel production

Regarding the buying public: <start rant> they tend not to think in terms of %, because it requires too much math. This is reinforced EVERY TIME a reviewer (I'm staring at you, Edmunds.com) reminds everyone that Diesel is currently averaging X cents more than RUG. Were they (the allegedly informed media) to simply add that the ACTUAL 30% increase in efficiency translated to an ACTUAL break even point of 30% more for the fuel, and then ACTUALLY do the math showing over $1.00 more per gallon until the economics breaks down; well then we wouldn't get the good deals on the diesels, now would we?

Furthermore, nothing drives me more nuts than comparing Diesel to RUG. Diesel is a Premium fuel. Any "properly" built Engine with a Turbo requires Premium fuel. Compare apples to apples, and it REALLY leans towards Diesel.

</ rant>
