kaziii, (congrats by the way), ordered on 8/9 and didn't go to "D" - "pre-release" until today. (I think you will go to "D1" quickly...)

To anyone who knows: my question is, are only sold orders going to "D1"? Or did this particular dealer just not have an allotment for August Ordering,(and are just going to "pre-release" now)?

On a side note, anyone who sits in traffic a lot should get a hybrid. Hopefully, someone will come up with a reasonably priced diesel / electric / battery platform for the automotive and light truck industry.
Someone does a diesel hybrid...I know Audi uses it on there LeMans race car. (Searching the web now...its going to bug me)

Edit: This may be it or this

Re: 2014 diesel production

Since we are all getting the spinning circle of death on VOTS today, maybe they are busy inputting all the CRD orders into shipment. (I know, wishful thinking).

There are lots of unsold orders that went D1... mine is marked as an unsold order and always has been. Once I committed to what I wanted it wasn't possible to edit the order as it is a stock order in the system FOREVER

I have seen the "Audi R18 e-tron quattro", from 2 feet away, it was awesome. Unfortunately, the diesel Electric hybrids meant for the road are not main stream vehicles yet. When I see it in a lower end european sports sedan like a VW Passat I will know it's getting close.

First Drive: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine

Quote:
Burning The Midnight Oil

The grandest Jeep competes in one of the industry’s most brutal segments. Unlike the Wrangler, which has no legitimate competition, the Grand Cherokee has to lure buyers away from Mercedes, Rover, Lexus, and other latte-serving dealerships. A legendary SUV pedigree alone isn’t always enough to hook upscale SUV buyers.
We’ll leave the discussions about sumptuous amenities to the whine-and-cheese magazines. (“No whiners” is our motto.) Instead, we’re obsessed with the vehicle’s mechanicals, particularly its powertrain technology.
For 2014, the Grand Cherokee remains on the shared-with-Durango WK2 platform. But the big news is the highly refined 50-state-legal diesel. The Fiat-influenced 3.0L EcoDiesel V-6 from VM Motori (a joint Fiat/GM holding) has the same displacement as the former optional Mercedes-supplied BlueTec mill. The EcoTech has the edge in power over its predecessor: 220 hp versus 210, 420 lb-ft of torque compared to 400.....

So it remains curious why 3 JGC CRD's ordered at the beginning would still be "Pre-release". Unless they didn't have an allotment.

I think if they didn't have an allotment, they would still be in the "not yet scheduled" category (like Kaziii's was in). It's a big dealer, and they told me they have factory allocation before I ordered mine, which seems to be confirmed by my order goint to pre-release the day after I placed it.

At the end of the day, who knows how it really works...

You got it... Ding Ding Ding.

Kazzi flipped when he did because of the next round of allotment happened with the next round of orders.

It is why people can walk into certain dealers and there are Jeeps in pre-release available to take.

If you let Sold orders take over the distribution of product, you would have guys like Koons selling their store.

Edit: actually Kazii's dealer could have got it released sooner but their rep would have wanted them to take some unused production allotment they didn't want. Every dealer has the ability to push for more allotment, it is whether they are will to take to consequences.

Re: 2014 diesel production

That's kind of odd, they reference 220hp a couple times in their article but then below in the specifications they clearly list it as 240hp. Guess they're not really sure what it is they're reviewing.

Engine
Type VM Motori A630
Displacement 3.0L DOHC V-6 diesel
Horsepower 240 @ 3,600 rpm
Torque (lb-ft) 420 @ 2,000 rpm

What you're saying doen't make sense - you need allocation to go to pre-release. So if the dealer's orders are in pre-release that means they had allocations.

That idea works for me as long as what surrounds the engine is also something I'd like...hint, consider what I drive now.

You misunderstood. Dealers order for "stock" and got allocation when other dealers put in "sold" orders and didn't. Trust me I see it all the time
