Re: 2014 diesel production

I am completely optimistic that I am getting my diesel sometime this year... or next year at the latest... maybe the year after that... not sure.

Now... to lighten things up a bit:

FWIW, a press release back in February stated the Ram 1500 would have an ecodiesel option in Q3 and it's not listed in any of the build options or specs on the Ram web site yet.

At this point, that is probably more likely than the Jeep getting it. Diesel pickups already have an established market in Anglo-America. If you are running short of crd motors it makes sense to put it in the Ram over the Jeep.

The JGC is pretty much on top of the game right now for domestic and even some import suvs. That can be seen in the reports that the plant is running at max capacity and there doesnt seem to be a big build up of inventory.

The Ram however, i bet (this is just a surmise) is in a bit of an identity crisis. Granted, it has a great brand loyalty, but how well is it doing at picking off GM and Ford customers? Earlier today, i saw someone I know in a new Ford F150 twin turbo. He has been a diehard GM guy, but really like the new F150. He isnt the first person I have heard to have made those comments. A Diesel half ton is a big splash in that market.

If i wanted another pickup (currently a chevy duramax) i would look hard at it where as before i wouldnt even read a review on a Ram.

Re: 2014 diesel production

The diesel RAM and diesel Grand Cherokee could both be big splashes into the market. Other than 3/4 ton trucks and up, and some import SUV's, there are no diesel AWD or 4WD offerings. I am very interested in getting one. I previously had a 1.9 TDI Jetta and loved the performance and economy it provided. My current '12 Focus is alright, but I want something a little higher up and with 4 or all wheel drive. My patience is being tested as a diesel Touareg price wise in Canada atleast is very much on par with the JGC Overland with diesel. No idea what the Ram diesel will be, nothing has been leaked yet.

Re: 2014 diesel production

The Ram is truck of the year and is outselling the GC. I know most of it is probably work trucks/contracts...but the Ram is for real. Really for most truck buyers I know...the Ram is a serious contender and it really comes down to which look they prefer. In my book the Ram is at the top of the mountain. Ford is having problems with those TT motors from what i hear.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Is there really a shortage of CRDs, or is this an assumption?

Are two, 10 hour shifts really full capacity for JNAP, or could they go to three 8 hour shifts?

I know Jeep has been quiet regarding why we haven't seen the Grand Cherokee card yet, but it seems like there is no shortage of assumptions.

Come on Jeep (Milous) spill the beans.

OK. I know you have connections but how do you know that & what then is the official hold-up? I really doubt they would make 60,000 engines and not know that they would pass EPA or any other testing. That would be incredibly foolish.

I agree with the above posters, I have test-driven the new RAM pickup and it is an incredible vehicle!!!

Well that doesn't sound like a shortage. If JNAP went to 100% diesel, that's enough to keep Marlon and Chevy busy for the next couple of months.

Frigging awesome..... so had a guy buying a GM truck or a Ford and didn't want the RAM.... no way he says. I watched this dealer line up all three and say here are the keys you go try all three then talk to me.

Guy came back in 45 minutes and said wow that RAM is absolutely beautiful....what will it set me back against the GM truck we priced

Dealer: actually it is about $10.00 a month less.

Customer: holly &@*#-+ why didn't you tell me that it the first place.

Dealer: because the RAM is just a better truck, why would I want you to buy it just to save a buck without finding that out for yourself. (Dealer owns all three franchise)

True story..... now stick a 3 litre diesel in it and compare. BAM even better.

I get it, I just want my Jeep first because I am selfish about my car.

Thanks Scott!
