Ditto! All the great info here and sense of community (not to mention a great vehicle from an American company) sold me on the diesel JGC!!

Re: 2014 diesel production

First dealer wanted $500 down. Gave him the money back in March. When I found a MUCH better deal (thru here of course), I canceled my order, and placed my order with another dealer. He wanted $200 down. You should never have to pay more than 10% down. It just assures the dealer that you are a serious buyer, as they do not want to order a custom build, and have you turn it down on delivery. If they want you to sign for a build they pre-ordered, they are nuts. $500 max down, or go to another dealer and order. This way, you get it built exactly the way you want. Also, with the hold up at this time, it looks like orders placed now will probably be released about the same time the current builds are released.

^This.

Actually I think ppl should already be seeing faster progression thru the whole process from (D) to (I) now. The lots are pretty full, and if Vegas had a line on the shipping (over/under 7 days from today), I'd take the under on yours for $1k. Lol..

Last night I saw my first Grand Cherokee commercial where they zoomed in on the Ecodiesel badging. Let the media blitz begin...

Re: 2014 diesel production

Oh, and just a quick note on delivery dates, bc Commando (I think) brought it up the other day, and I forgot to touch on it.. The delivery dates are essentially an approximation, not intentionally, but bc of the many circumstances that change build dates.

In a perfect world the delivery dates would be spot on, or deliveries would beat the date. But bc of line stops, breakdowns, scrap builds, bad parts, parts shortages/late deliveries, paint reprocess, repairs after final assembly, transportation schedules, etc.., the delivery dates often don't match up with what they told you. Especially at launch.

For example; your car is scheduled to be built today, and they give you a delivery date 4 weeks from now. We build the body, but it needs a new fender hung on it bc on doesn't pass. (Reprocess.) Fender gets hung on it and she goes to paint. Paint shop fails the car bc of a blemish on the hood caused from too much oil on it that didn't come off in the acid wash beforehand, or whatever. (Again, reprocess.. Hood comes off, and get redone or replaced.) Car passes then goes to assembly. Car proceeds thru assembly without issue but fails inspection bc of a low brake pedal, and sumn else. (Repairs are completed.) Then it goes KZ... But maybe it can't ship right away now, bc it's a couple days past when it was scheduled to be built. So now maybe it has to find a new ride out of town. Which isn't likely bc the shipping is based on completed "ready to ship" cars, but you get the point.. Things don't usually flow smooth for long. So delivery dates are more of a rough approximation than a guarantee.

So why doesn't Chrysler just change the dates when they see it won't make the date? Well I have my theory, but idk how true it is. But the obvious reason is they don't like to change it (as Willx said in the other thread) bc they're eternal optimist I guess. That and when things get delayed early in a build, that doesn't guarantee it won't finish on time. Some days we build more cars than normal. Or they'll work us thru breaks and lunch to catch up. Or add a Sunday. Etc.. So there's ways to make up the loss. Not financially, but production wise.

But honestly, right now I'd say the biggest reason you guys' dates are so terribly off is bc the "delivery projection system," if you will, doesn't account for them holding these first builds. So they may as well suck it up and change the damn dates.

Great post Chevy! Yes, they SHOULD change the dates.
