Re: 2014 diesel production

Peter, I see you putting a lot of postings in the Diesel thread. You know this means that subconsciously you want to cross over to the dark side. Just think about it: Better gas milage, way more torque, and an engine that will outlast any Hemi out there. It will also beat that Hemi off the line from 0-30. Not too late to change your mind.

Believe it or not I've given it some thought. If they can get the Hemi built anytime soon I might give that one to the other half and cross over to the dark side

Re: 2014 diesel production

I am still haunted by my audi diesel i had when I lived in europe for 6 years. Right when the 4 year warranty went out the EGR valve and Intake Manifold swil flaps and actuator went.

Audi told me its a general problem with all modern diesels due to carbon build up.

anyway, was out 3000 euros at the time for the parts and work.

A year later...the diesel particular filter went...another 1500 euros.

Over $5000 in repairs due to have a diesel...

The gas version of my car never had a single problem. lol

Though I am sure some of the original updates to the Diesels had issues, really the stuff that has been coming out since 08/09 has been really solid. The biggest problems have been injector issues which this engine has not had issues with (usually evident pretty early on and variants of this engine have already been around for a few years. The 02-04 Duramax Engines used to blow through injectors too.

The really "modern" diesel engines of the last 4-5 years have been a result of the need to improve the technology. That and there has been huge steps in improving the diesel fuel production globally.

With my current car I always try to put in shell gas (I've heard shell, Bo, and mobile is the best petrol fuel). What about diesel? I am new to it and not everyplace carries it. With the jeep crd, does anyone have recommendations on what to look for, or to stay away from? Does diesel have different grades like octane levels?
