Re: 2014 diesel production

Plus, if you use reclaimed fryer oil, your truck will smell delicious!

Anyways, I went back a few pages and called it good. Saw this sub-thread and thought I'd weigh in a bit...

Having driven more than a few oil burners in my day and run both Bio (B5, B15, B20, B50, B85, B100) and 1D/2D... you won't notice the impact.

You lose maybe 1-2MPG and the power... well, you don't notice it, you still churn out easily as much ft lb of torque as a V8.

That being said...

You will want to watch your oil levels like a hawk. In this rig, it's recommended to not go over B25, and it has nothing to do with your engine, it's the exhaust system (or rather the systems setup to clean out the DPF) that are the issue.

If you run anything higher than B25 (and even then, check your oil levels) you run the risk of hydrolock. Basically, the way the system works is post combustion, it squirts fuel into the cylinder/exhaust system. Normal diesel has a lower smoke point, and will combust (like it is supposed to). Bio, on the other hand, has a higher smoke point, and WON'T combust.

This results in the oil making it's way along the cylinder wall, and eventually into your engine oil. At this point, bad things can happen.

I'm not saying don't do it.... just be aware of it.

If you do run Bio, expect your engine to be a bit more happy though. It keeps the bits better lubricated and clean (seriously, run a couple tanks of B100 through a diesel that's never seen it before, the sheer amount of shit you will flush out of the lines (and into your fuel filter) is horrifying).
Very interesting thanks for the info! My 335d just must not like biodiesel at all it is night and day from bio to reg?

So this engine for sure does not have a down stream injector for regens? Do you know if it only post fires in one cylinder or if it will change cylinders? Unfortunately I know too many horror stories of post fire regen systems if something goes wrong. Proper maintenance is very important.

Everything I can find points to the system using a single post combustion injection on a single cylinder.

However, they don't' exactly have much documentation on it.

And yeah, if something goes wrong on this type of a system, it's a major PITA.

My original plan was what I did with my 3 oil burning Mercs before (E 300D, 2004 CDI, 2006 BluTech), which was setup my still and start cranking out the good stuff. However, after poking around, it sounds like that's off the table now due to the way Jeep went with the engineering of the DPF regen cycle.

Tomorrow will be 10 days in inspection and my revised estimated delivery date. You'd think somebody, somewhere would have some idea of some kind of plan on when these will be released, but then they probably can't share that with us.

I visited my dealership this past weekend to get some things cleared up. I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to pay the $300 price increase. I had them print out a current order sheet for me and I noticed a ship date of 9/26. I can wait that long, but I'm willing to bet that is when you will start to see GC CRD's loaded onto the trains.

He also told me he has had multiple people asking him if they can test drive my CRD when it arrives. Of course he said no, but there had better not be a bunch of miles on my Jeep!
