Re: 2014 diesel production

Well, with the 140,000-unit recall, we now know WHY the GCs are stacking up at JNAP. From tank neck fillers to stock price manipulation, our guesses ran the gamut. How long will it take to update software on several thousand Grand Cherokees?

My CRD was just produced this past weekend (9/28). I wonder which software version it received? A leap-frog maneuver would be great, but not likely. My first call to Jeep CS this morning yielded a 10/16 SHIP date. My original delivery (TX) was MOTS estimated 10/9.

This issue resembles a recent recall of automatic pistols by Springfield Armory. SA's XDs model in .45 caliber was Gun of the Year last year; it took the entire year for production to catch up with demand. SA pushed out even more units in 2013 with the new 9mm. Recently, SA issued a "voluntary safety recall" where owners were asked to return the XDs pistols for repair due to a remote chance the gun could double fire. Now that many thousands have been returned, SA admits they don't have a fix as of yet. Apparently, SA lawyers encouraged the recall without full disclosure on repair timing. Mine are still in my safe. Let's hope JNAP has the fix already.

Who would rather have the current software units and take your chances with the local dealer? Good luck to all, the obsession continues...

But other JGC have been shipping out; so this might not be the real reason.

This should likely be an update performed at the dealer... AND some of the production units may already have the software (that happens often)

You are correct, this is nothing specific to do with Diesel, all others are continuing to ship daily.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Well ... was looking to go to dealer to do software upgrade for the AC fix and Tranny clunky shifting as well. When I go to do the recall upgrade are they going to upgrade any other software or do I have to mention specific TSBs?

Been lurking around looking at this thread. Initially was set on diesel, than I found out that diesel will not be available in the US anytime soon and will carry hefty price premium. Just couldn't wait that long for a new car (with old truck 200K and new born baby). Sux to see you guys suffering with the hold up but at least it makes me happy knowing that I've made the right decision (at least timing wise).

That being said. It will suck once reviews start coming out. Maybe will try my V6 Overland for diesel. Probably would take to much of a hit. Be patient ... your truck is build ... you are almost there ...

Re: 2014 diesel production

I just texted my Sales Rep, and he looked up my new ship date. They are saying 10/8 now... Looks like we are getting some good information that we might ship in a week or so.

That would be shipping to Denver area, and then up into the mountains a few more miles...

Re: 2014 diesel production

Still have my original gut feeling that the first ones will ship this Friday.

The ABS modules that have malfunctioned with dash lights as the symptom have required replacement in several cases documented by forum members. The ABS module has been on backorder with long lead times. That doesn't sound like a software update.

All non-CRDs are shipping so it sounds like the ABS module issue was fixed but there is a backlog of delivered vehicles with defective modules

So...I'm still hanging on to the idea that there is a financial/marketing/other reason to hold until a release date.
