Personally, I would much prefer they fix the recall issues in Detroit than at my dealership. Waiting a few extra days is so worth not having my dealer performing work on my Jeep before I take delivery.

Yup.

The only chance ever for a recall to be 100% successful is before a vehicle leaves the manufacturer as the manufacturer is required to fix vehicles before they leave their control. Once it goes leaves the manufacturers control, it's no longer possible. Dealers have no real incentive to ensure it is done (most are awesome about it, some aren't) and I know people to this day who have 2014 Escapes at risk for fire issues who simply "don't have time" to take it in.

Hard to say, I wouldn't place any bets, but I can say that the fact that they are still building them is "good news".

That would lead me to believe that the hold up is specific to diesel engines somehow

I think people are mistakenly under the impression that the holdup is largely due to the recall. I believe the recall has nothing to do with it, or at most is a very small part.

The gas models are still shipping because they likely already have the updated software...or...they have a later version that isn't as big of an issue. With that in mind, it's likely that the diesels built recently do as well.

Its baffling that they are holding them back. I'm sure there is a reason. The recall just doesn't make sense to me since others are shipping.

I guess Jeep will ship them when they want to....I'm just BAFFLED.

Everything built for the past couple weeks has the update in place. Many (well most) of the gas models that had already left prior to that and were affected got the update off site. Problem was they found something else diesel specfic, and bc of the lack of space around here, they elected to do THAT update off site in those same "other" places.. Last I heard (yesterday), none of the diesels had got it yet though, bc they're still "updating" shipped gas cars with earlier buid dates. Nothing is in repair for that recall though in the plant. Again, all the late September builds are ok. Minus diesels. They have their own needs. But not the ones built after last Thursday. They're ok.
