I agree wholeheartedly. Diesel is the next logical step in vehicle powerplants and energy independence. When you consider a hybrids increased TCO and limited battery life expectancy they really don't make sense compared to diesel. If you want outright MPGs, the VW Passat, Gulf, and Jetta diesels are getting 42-43 MPGs. If you want hauling power and size, the hybrid Tahoe is only getting 20-23 mpg while the JGC CRD should blow those numbers away.

So gas is on its way out, hybrids don't make sense compared to diesels, we don't yet have the infrastructure for everyone to drive a pure electric vehicle, and fuel cell technology is not there yet.

Diesel is the next sweet spot and likely will be for the life expectancy of our vehicles.

AND the JGC tows a 7000 pound load WAY better than the Tahoe/Yukon period!

My father-in-law has gotten up to 53mpg on trips in his TDI Passat, and my wife gets nearly 50 in her TDI Jetta. Diesel is indeed a smart way to go.

Only problem with tuning chips is that they invalidate the vehicles warranty. And supposedly they can tell if one has been put in and then removed....

So it seems like Chrysler is confident they will be able to start shipping them at some (undefined) point - otherwise why would they keep making them?
As I said before they may be just using up the engines that have already been shipped. It take a a few weeks from shipping to arrival from Italy. Also if they stop shipping it would takes weeks to start getting more once they run out.

I am not as encouraged by the fact they are still building as I was before.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I've been wanting one of these since Jeep first announced that they were going to release a diesel back in late 2011. For me, this is less frustrating than what we were going through back in March when we were constantly having Lucy pull the ball away and we constantly went back to try and kick it again.

While I wouldn't be happy, I would wait a few more months if I absolutely had to. Of course I am less frustrated because my truck has not been built and sitting on a lot for a month. Also, I am not driving my bike to work in the rain because I had to get rid of my other vehicle. That is more frustrating.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I sold my 2011 JGC Hemi in August to upgrade to a CRD. It was a great vehicle, but the $5000/year for fuel was unacceptable. Fuel is expensive in the NW, I tow a lot, I need the off-road capability of a Wrangler, and want the refined ride of a nice highway vehicle. There simply aren't any other SUVs currently available that meet my needs that I'm aware of. So I wait....
