Re: 2014 diesel production

So I did something semi-sleazy yesterday.... I stopped by a Jeep dealership (not the one I am ordering from as its 80 miles away) and I test drove the closest thing they had to mine. Limited 4x4 in maximum steel metallic. After I test drove it with no intention to buy it (since mines on order) I was offered the option to take it home for the night! So I drove it home and decided to stick my dogs in the back of it and see if they fit.... they did but they did and I had to use a lint roller to remove the hair in the back. This cleaning process made me glad that I ordered two types of cargo liners to keep that area clean and save from the dogs hair! So yea felt a little more sleazy about keeping it overnight since, again, I had no intention on buying from them.

Overall I do have to say I had some questions when I first started driving it. The vehicle just felt weird to me during the first night as it is just so much different than what i have been driving around for 10 years. The more I drove it and sat in it the more I liked it though! The thing was just a dream... I didnt realize you could just press the voice command button and say something like "turn passenger temperature to 70 degrees" or "navigate to <insert address location>" and have it automatically start navigation to that place. The car rode incredibly well and the V6 power felt sufficient so I am sure the diesel will make me incredibly happy (maybe a tune later if I get bored with the 400+ ft-lbs of torque?). Also my Iphone 5 connected first try and had no issues playing music or making a call from it first try. Uconnect was SUPER easy to use and the vehicle was better in every way than I thought it would be. Only downside I found was the shifter is a little odd... I found myself driving around in sport mode about 50% of the time because I had pulled the stick back too far I guess? Anyway something I'll have to work on but not a big deal. Also I do see how there are some blind spots that will take some getting use to.

Anyway just wanted to share my opinion of the vehicle and I am now more excited than ever for it to arrive!

Your diesel will now be delayed another month beyond shipping. This is the karmic penalty you must pay for cheating with a gas vehicle. And an overnight stay at that....

The horror...your CRD will smite you...

That is a horrific penalty for such a small breach of diesel honor code... can't I just get a harsh warning this time?

Wonder if the instrumentation includes EGT or CHT somewhere ? With aluminum components it is a real good idea to know what they are. Unlike a gas engine which will generally get cranky if overtemped, a diesel will just keep pulling and getting hotter.

My RV has a 2.4 liter TD and dual full sized radiators with electric fans. I drive mainly on the boost and temp gauges.
I've had many turbo vehicles and completely understand waiting for them to cool down after hard use etc. But the manual says even under light use to wait which seems silly to me. If I am pulling up my driveway to park in my garage or enter my low speed parking lot at work, I certainly don't intend to wait before turning the vehicle off once parked.

Sort of like getting caught with what you did at your bachelor party. Not quite married to the diesel yet, but you did make the commitment.
Say three Hail Mary's and research if they have solved the slow drainage on the oil filter element, then you are forgiven.

I think the manual states to cool down as a CYA procedure. Low speed operation while parking is plenty of time for EGT's to fall within safe limits.

Hello,

I feel for each of you waiting for your Jeeps. I totally understand your plight. The JGC EcoDiesel would have been my 5th diesel vehicle. I have given in to my needs and my plans. I don't suggest you do the same. I have met my breaking point. My grandmother's Jeep is my avatar, it was a gas burner. Stay with your dream stay with your purpose. I hope they ship soon or at least get a real explanation to sooth your moraled soul.

Edit: That last part was from a song. I don't know what in means, but, it sounded good last night when I was intoxicated. It will probably be another 2 years before I drink again.

Drinking or not that was very nicely put... The White Summit HEMI in my neighbor's driveway was the one I almost bought because it is exactly my truck but not Diesel. So I get it, but you have also been part of the diesel family so long you better stick around and watch this baby get delivered.

You needed to do something and some others can wait a little longer, we are all in different situations so I think everyone respects you for that

Re: 2014 diesel production

Hello all - my sales rep now says his boss (owner of the dealership) told him no diesels will be released until the week of October 21st. He used the term "product launch". Any one heard anything similar?

Re: 2014 diesel production

My 2008 WK also has the same info about cooling down to protect the turbo. It's not like most people's driving style includes stopping at the top of long grade pulling a large trailer to cool down.
