It all boils down to risk vs reward. To me the reward is very small (20 hp or whatever?) and the risk of voiding the warranty on a $50k+ vehicle is too high for me personally. Again, to each his own, but I'll leave mine standard. BTW, I am an engineer by training with a specialization in power and propulsion systems. These systems are getting so complex I wouldn't touch them with a 10' pole. I used to do all my own maintenance (I still do on my airplane), but with these modern engines and computerized transmissions and emission systems I just take it to the dealer.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Just a lil food for thought:

1.) It is a known fact that higher ups inside the company browse these threads from time to time.

2.) Chrysler REALLY does not like third party tuning. (Just ask the SRT crowd.)

3.) You all may have JG usernames that tell nothing about who you really are, but your Jeep that's currently being tracked thru MOTS has a VIN tied to that username. Which in the event of a warranty claim, tells them what you said you planned to do.

Catch my drift?

Whether or not the computer will remember isn't really the whole arguement.. But rather, once they tell you the vehicle WAS altered, do you really want to have to prove that it wasn't, AND that you aren't user "TunedCrd123" from JG with the badass chip, when said user ordered it and you're the original owner?

Not trying to discourage anyone from getting the most out of their Jeep, but be careful guys. There's more tech in these things than you'd think.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Here's what I did.

Don't wait.

Stop worrying about it.

You have another vehicle for right now, well most of you do.

If you don't, then yes, keep complaining.

I 2nd the thought. We don't all have to agree on this, we still live in a free country and everyone can do with their truck as they please.

However, I see little temptation to void a warranty on a new vehicle. While I am not an engineer and haven't bought a new car in years, I do know that when my 7 year old boat engine goes in for diagnostics they know if I have over revved it, for how long, how often, if the incorrect amount of oxygen is being fed, if the thing miss fires even once, and for a million other things there is record. This Jeep is state of the art in so many ways. Even if a "MAP" does not stay when the box is removed, it makes sense that there would be a record of the engine performing in a way it was not supposed to perform.

<snip>

So I suppose if you wanted to stretch your imagination, they are in QC the entire time they are there, stretch a little more and you can call it 150% inspection. I know I am speaking a lot of maybes there but I have now heard specific examples.
Wow, that is reaaaallly a stretch. Admittedly I don't know what goes into a normal 100% inspection, but to argue that because some guy moving cars around might notice something and get it fixed is even remotely close to a 100% inspection or 150% inspection .... ? I dunno, I think I'd need some liquid and/or chemical "enhancements" to stretch my imagination that far!

Hopefully it won't come up very often, but I do worry that folks who were given the 100% inspection spiel and wind up with quality problems are going to be even more upset than they would normally be and it could reflect even more poorly on Chrysler. It's one thing to find out that the normal quality process occasionally let something wrong go through - that's a normal part of just about every manufacturing process. But to tell people that their vehicle is being held up for weeks so that they could do a 100% inspection and be sure the vehicle is perfect when that's not what's happening ... Seems like setting yourself up for problems.

I guess I'm still baffled as to why they thought it was a better idea to lie (or at best use an extreme exaggeration of the truth) to the customers when they could have just said that their vehicle was built and inspected, but shipments were being held up for "internal reasons". It's not like that's a secret - even without this site or any "inside knowledge" it would be pretty easy to determine that no EcoDiesels were shipping.

Many of you guys are first time diesel owners. Tuning a diesel is more common than gassers. If you are conservative, scared, or don't need it...don't do it. To the rest, enjoy your enhanced mileage and performance!

Excellent, so I have Marlon's blessing to complain!

Though I suppose technically I have another vehicle, if you consider the motorcycle. But that's all I got. Unlike Chiv - I don't even have a wife that I can be nice to and borrow her vehicle. It's the motorcycle or rental/taxi/public-transportation.

So you're going to take pity on me and sneak mine to the head of the line once shipping starts, right?
