Re: 2014 diesel production

Cool! According to VOTS, mine is in Final Inspection! Bummer that still, nothing is shipping, and mine is likely to end up in a holding area with all the others...

Just think, your JGC will have friends and it won't be by itself!

They are like a fine wine...a little age will mature them. Remember it does not need to make sense as long as it works.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Stupid question, once they do start to ship, how long will it take to ship the 2,000 (?) already built?

The more exciting question is who will get the unicorn first once they do ship? Those of us in the Detroit area should get them first if they all ship at roughly the same time.

Tough question, if they KZ them all at once... maybe within a week or so. They will probably KZ them in stages like they have with the Cherokee.... If that happens, I am going to go hide in a bomb shelter until they all go KZ.

Nearest first but you would be surprised how far some get truck shipped straight to a dealer.... Say some 300+ miles away depending on rail routes to those areas.

Vtail has disabled reputation
According to the news Facebook is down and people are complaining. They don't know what it means to wait for something truly worthwhile....

While we are waiting, let me ask off topic question. This will be my first diesel. I was reading the owners manual and letting it idle for extended period seems to be a no-no. I guess there would be similar issues when you are caught in stop and go traffic or is that not something to worry about?
Thanks
PS Willx, no hiding allowed!

So and go traffic won't be a problem. I believe what is meant by extended idling would be running the Jeep and not driving. For instance if you were hooking up your trailer and left the Jeep running while you did a bunch of other chores. I would say idling for ten minutes and not driving might qualify.

Stop and go is not a problem at all. The issue with long low idle on a diesel is that the engine can cool down too much and fuel can get past the rings into the oil. If you intend to idle for hours frequently then you might be able to get a "high idle kit" that will bump up the idle enough to keep the engine warm and prevent that fuel leakage past the rings.

Edited to add: it is MUCH less of an issue idling for long periods with a diesel than with a gasser... a gasser idling for a long time leads to buildup and crud. Diesels love to idle.

I am NOT a diesel mechanic... this is hearsay knowledge.
