Maybe he is an Exec and does not want anyone asking him when the diesels are going to be let out to pasture. I bet you he knew why you were honking at him.

Re: 2014 diesel production

That's interesting since one review I read about the ecodiesel is that it mad more clatter than the 2007/2008 WK. With my 2008, the only diesel clatter I hear from the cabin is at idle.

I read that too. I was driving right next to the passenger fender with my window down at 40 and I could not hear him at all. A friend at work once told me that my old wk sounded like an angry sewing machine.

This engine, unlike the Cummins, really doesn't give itself away under a load.. You really don't hear it outside of idle.. Here's a better sound clip.. It's in the Ram, but gives you all a good idea of how she sounds:

Re: 2014 diesel production

Just for the heck of it, I called Jeep customer service again today. The guy sounded very surprised mine has not released yet, and said the "diesel shouldn't effect the release" of mine. Again, I got the "100% inspection" speech. He put me on hold for 10 minutes, then came back and said he got "special permission" to contact the plant manager to see what the delay is, and he will get back to me tomorrow.
I love calling an bugging these guys, because I get such varied answers as to why the delay.
Lets hope they figure out the problem with our diesels, fix it (if it is broke), and release them soon (or even quicker if there is no fix to make).

Me thinks diesel engine CO will kill you just as fast as gasoline IC engine CO. Even charcoal's CO is deadly in an enclosed space. Just sayin'...

Re: 2014 diesel production

Well... the race is officially on at my house.

The wife ordered an Audi Q5 Prestige TDI pretty well loaded up. She got tied of waiting on the Jeep.

The Audi dealer said he had not heard anything on Diesel Jeeps making it to dealers until early/mid-Nov (but, keep in mind, he's trying to sell a competing model).

The deal we struck was, if the Audi beats the Jeep, we'll buy the Audi. The Audi dealer agreed to pay me the deposit I threw down on the Jeep (almost) 3 months ago so I don't eat that loss.

If the Jeep beats the Audi, the Audi guy will refund the deposit we paid on the Audi 2x.

The Audi arrives 10/30...

I somehow sense, that my Jeep will not beat the Audi here (and that the only EcoDiesels on dealer lots in Oct will be within a 300 mile radius of JNAP), call me skeptical.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Well..having caught up from where I left off yesterday, this is a little disappointing. Kick the reps out of town...they don't help anyways(at least from what I have ever seen) and start the KZ extravaganza.

I know in the houseboat world - gas generators are known to produce lethal amounts of Carbon Monoxide at the water level (meaning you can't swim out back with the generator running - folks die this way every year) but it's considered to be safe with a diesel generator.

Comparable pricing? I know the MB Blutec I priced out with similar options was about 10-15K more.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Jeep Dealer in Bozeman, MT called and said he would have a SFU (not his words), mid-November for test driving. Back in April or May they were right telling me expect the diesel sometime in the Fall

I could not even hear the Jeep making as much noise as the Ram in the video. though it was raining and the neon I was driving may have over powered it in the sound department.
