I'm hoping that once we get ours and the word hits the streets how fabulous these diesels are, that sales will start ticking up.
Gas prices are falling, so I think people are more complacent with gas burners. When the prices hike again next spring (or sooner if any little thing upsets the apple cart), the demand should increase.

I've also had/driven many Diesels over the years. I agree, modern diesels are very resilient. I have a 2004 Duramax I've worked hard for 10 years without an issue. I don't plug it in in cold wx (not an option since I live off-grid) and it always starts right up, even at -20 F. I do the factory recommended maintenance, change the fuel filter once a year, and try to be selective on what stations I fill up at. Likewise, I treat my Kubota tractor the same way and have never had an issue with it. I'm sold on modern diesel technology and can't wait to finally have a Grand Cherokee with a proper engine in it.

Actually, the price of crude is forecast to stabilize around the current price for most of the winter. The price of gas is supposed to stay pretty close to where it is currently, and the price of distillates is going to increase a little. Here in north Idaho we're paying $3.43/gal for regular gas and #4.03/gal for diesel.

This is a little old but an interesting read. Jeep Grand Cherokee diesels to hit dealers next month | New and Used Car Reviews & Auto-Industry News & LeftLaneNews sounds like it really does have to do with emissions or something related to the new VM engine.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Because of fracking fuel prices will most likely not rise a great deal. The millennials are driving less and they are the largest population so unlike previous generations they are not putting pressure on the miles increase. Before fracking I think we would have seen fuel prices rise but not so much now.

I have been reading this forum as a guest for a long time and I feel for you guys and gals that ordered a diesel and are still waiting on it. I am excited about this JGC because it has features on it that I want.

I ran my SuperDuty to 180K miles before selling it and the only expense I ever had was a failed computer that got wet in 3 feet of water which was my fault. Even at 7000 pounds I averaged 17.5-19.9 mpg which is pretty good for a 99 7.3 SuperDuty.

Aren't the Cherokees built in Toledo? They wouldn't be shipping from the same yards, right?

You are correct but nationally there are X resources and management.

It doesn't affect it directly but it does indirectly.

POST# 5000! Ok, Jeep, you can ship them now.

If its not one thing, its another. I am so weary that my hope'er is all hope'd out... I've been patiently waiting since March to order and my GC has been sitting in Detroit's acid rain since 9/6. This is getting truly ridiculous.

Edit: On a brighter note, all you guys on this thread have been the glue that has held it all together...my forum app says this is post# 5000 with 250 pages...wow! That shows a lot of determination.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Can anyone direct me to the place on this thread I think where someone did a great long in depth cost analysis about getting a CRD instead of a V6 or V8.

TIA

Not sure that is the way I or any outsider would describe it.

Here is the long version of a study done by the University of Michigan:

Here is a summary news media coverage of the same data:
