The fact of the matter is I am pretty sure I know the issue and while there is a chance it is the tank (as there may be a piece of data I don't know but Chevy does), I don't lean that way based on what Chevy has explicitly said and what I know.

None of us want to particularly lose our employment as we really love our jobs so we don't come out and say it. If the info got out, it isn't a really big deal but it would be one big thing that could be hung around our necks before the noose is put on.

Personally I try to leave the game to more experienced people (*cough* Milous) and chime in when I think appropriate. It's all good and ill probably share a bit once everything is hunky dory and you guys have your new shiny things.

Bottom line, if it truly is what we think it is, it's dirt simple to correct.
So I think we'd assume the tank was there since they knew it was needed for the build but is it possible they discoverd a heat issue with it being under the spare tire area and right by the mufflers? This would seem to be an easy fix and though not a skid plate, may require a heat shield? I know a picture has been posted of the tank but I couldn't find it to determine if this could be the case.

Re: 2014 diesel production

1. There is no heat issue with the tanks. - Fact
2. There is no problems with urea, urea shortage, or urea freezing - Fact
3. At the plant, the urea tank was just installed prior to the open house - Fact
4. Re-read the posts - everything points to lack of urea tank. No where does Chevy say it is not a urea tank issue, and if you read closely, it is easy to deduce the exact issue, and that problem appears to be resolving - (99.9% sure)
5. High level person said final approval comes 10/25 - Fact
6. Not a filter issue - or a line issue from tank - Fact

There you have it.

Now they just need to ship

Since you don't "play the game" as much as the others do, I can't tell if this is intended to be a hint (maybe there's a filter that needs to be installed, and the confusion comes from where exactly the filter lives (e.g., could be the tank or could be before the tank)) or if it's just a typical phrase being used normally.

The only thing with it being a filter is it doesn't exactly fit the "obvious" and "could be seen" criteria that we were given earlier.

Anyhoo ... thanks for jumping in Blinker and providing another voice from JNAP.

Re: 2014 diesel production

No double talk at all in the previous post.

As for the mgmt involved, most that I know will accept responsibility immediately if it was their issue, learn, and move on. It's one of the core values that's espoused around here. We don't get better unless accept the truth. There are some still here that will do that but the events of late 2008/2009 cleared a lot of them out for better or worse.

In this case, I can't see them totally at fault for this. I've said such in previous posts.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Since no comment I suspect it is not the tank but a component of the system that either attaches to the tank, is in the tank, or in one of the lines. Probably over 100 parts in the DEF system. Are they built like miniature gas tanks ?

There was a hint that it was visible and wonder if when looking under the rear cavity, there was one shot like that a hundred or so pages ago.

Suspect a head or two rolled above the glass ceiling, a new org chart might indicate where. If so I trust it was whoever was responsible for the service manual CDs that were revised but stop working as soon as you get the free upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1.

I get very tempted to just fix it but suspect it would take about a weekend & I like to sleep in & visualizing all of the parts in a DEF system is a definite sleep aid.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I sure hope when I get to read this forum tomorrow that some of you have been informed that your ride is actually being shipped leaving the plant.

I have been through this before on other rides but this one is the longest time period to get out the diesel or any vehicle that I recall.

Good news is that we are all enthusiastic about this new engine in the JGC and hopefully for all you folks that have been waiting tomorrow is the day...

Is it possible that it is not lack of a urea tank but a potential problem with the installed urea tank that now needs replaced just to be safe?

Jeep engineers design DEF system, specs for needed parts drawn up along with needed tolerances, suppliers bid on contract, winning bid produces parts with Japanese machinery to what they think are the needed tolerances, parts for DEF system are delivered to Jeep.

So much can go wrong with this system it isn't even funny. Specs can be wrong, needed tolerances can be wrong, these can be right and the machines to produce the parts can slip out of tolerance, Machines to produce these parts can fail to produce needed tolerances and parts ship anyway, parts can fail to be delivered on time, parts can fail to perform as anticipated and need to be re-specked.

This is the price that we pay for being early adopters. The insiders have been quite clear that they can't tell us exactly what is up. This is all fun and has been interesting to watch. However, it does not change our situation. I personally don't want to see anyone escorted out for telling us too much. And even if a guess is right, I don't think we will be told. Lets hope for something better tomorrow.
