Didn't fall for anything. Just telling everyone what the hold up was. Sometimes clues are subtly released, till someone figures it out. Look at the history of this thread. Small clues given till someone figures it out. Usually clues are so subtle that they can't be figured out, till the person releasing the clues gets the OK to actually release the info, then the clues get easier. My guess is Chevy or someone else in the know will release exactly what part was missing - until they give the official release of what it is, I will stick with my unofficial DEF tank - read between the lines, as it is all there. Irrelevant anyway, as the problem has been addressed, and we are just awaiting final approval that comes tomorrow. Then KZ !!!

I'm pretty sure they are just waiting for the Owner's Manuals to come back from the printers.

The deep red CRD in the JNAP plant tour images had an installed DEF tank. It was black plastic, assumed to be PE as typically used in fuel tanks. There was also a steel skid plate protecting it.

Is a manufacturer required to have their own official specification for the Def fluid, approved and on file? That would be the "official release of what it is" in relation to the generic term Def, and also between the lines...

That's interesting, seeing how that was a Summit model and shouldn't have skid plates. Did you notice if there were any other skid plates installed?

And another guess could be they put the plates on all the CRD's and now have to take them off non trail rated???

Re: 2014 diesel production

Just curious how a missing part would be added to 2,500 vehicles post production? Does someone run around the yards with a bag of wrenches and a part, crawl under each vehicle and install said missing part? Seems sorta what I feel like when I'm browsing the junk yards and crawling under old FSJs and ZJs scavenging for parts

Through this experience (waiting for, ordering, and then continuing to wait) I have really learned a lot about the vehicle production process and it really is fascinating. All of my jeeps have been old and more or less torn apart and rebuilt. It's cool to see what goes into creating a new one I wish I could have joined everyone on that plant tour.

It's said quite often, but big thanks to Chevy, Marlon, Milous, Willx, and everyone else who works at JNAP or has some role in this big crazy process

DEF tank is a plastic tank, behind the rear axel. Has to have a steel plate over it for protection.

Thanks to the recent ZJ/WJ/KJ recall (gas tank behind rear axle goes boom)? Might fall into that category of unanticipated circumstances that someone mentioned a while back (blinker fluid maybe).

DEF is non-combustable, right? So why the need for extra protection I wonder?
