Online quote is attached. Hopefully, I did not make a mistake because I plan on driving Jeep CRD for many years.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I talked to an agent about the warranty and they said that lifetime was not available through the Maxcare plan. I drive 30K a year and asked them why not and was told because the diesel lasts too long. She mentioned the other policies and told her that mileage was my issue because I drive so much.

She laughed and said it was good that I called. Said in my situation that I should buy a plan for 60K and in the second year I could buy a 5 year plan that has unlimited mileage. We did not talk cost but my last vehicle a diesel Jetta had 286K when I got a new one that now has 80K on it.

I hope that as in an earlier post a lifetime is available because some repairs on diesels are a bit more than on gas and since I drive so much even things like servicing a transmission are done every few years and not sure if this has a timing belt but a replacement is expensive and the life on a diesel is shorter than gas at least on a VW.

For those who never drove a diesel I think your first reaction will be to smile and wonder why you waited so long. Newer engines are so much quieter and have no smell, and then there is the torque that makes it such a joy to drive.

Yes, you selected the Lifetime warranty as your current warranty and thus why it let you select lifetime below. I made this same mistake myself when I first seen that web site.

Thanks for clarifying. Glad to hear that the "I" is really "JS". Perhaps some movement soon then.

I keep my vehicles a long time so extended warranty makes sense and this is the first diesel I've owned so I'm a little leery of cost of major components 6 or 7 years out,. Also stuff like the Quadralift and the uconnect system are probably a small fortune to fix or replace.

I see there is also a Lifetime Plan. That sounds expensive but potentially worthwhile.
Just an aside...Lifetime plan is not available on the diesel. The MaxCare service contract (these are not extended "warranties") covers nearly everything outside of stated exclusions.

Also, since you're in Canada, I suspect you need to buy any contract "in" Canada. Be very careful with this...

If this is the "loophole" to getting an unlimited mileage Maxcare policy on the CRD, we need to confirm this. The CRD is my business ride and I clock 30k+ a year also.

The VM L630 has a real timing chain. Its a high durability design...not like the required replacement junk VW uses. VW diesels are interference motors with fragile timing belts. The used market is loaded with cars with reworked heads due to belt breaks.

I like the smell and clatter of the older turbo diesels too. The gut wrenching performance of a large displacement tuned turbodiesel is very addictive

Yes, true. I will ask the dealer and check Chrysler Canada website.
Thanks

Yea, you don't want to plunk down your money and find out after the fact that your service contract is void due to the cross-border thing...

Regarding extended warranties...I'd purchase a lifetime contract with diesel motor exclusion if it was offered. I'm primarily concerned with the tech stuff anyways. I've NEVER had major work done on a diesel. Replacing injectors at 200k or more is expected.

I've brought this up before and know that many won't purchase an extended warranty from anyone other than the manufacturer, but if you really want a lifetime warranty for your diesel there are 3rd party lifetime warranties available from very reputable companies (the one I'm looking at has been in business over 30 years and has billions in assets). My dealer will sell me one for $2200 and it covers everything from powertrain to electronics. I went through both the factory and 3rd party contracts with a microscope and I couldn't find any differencers. I am seriously considering the lifetime as I plan on keeping this at least 10 years. I've heard the arguments for and against non-factory warranties, and the ones against typically don't have accurate information from what I can tell. Granted, you have to do your research as there are some bad ones out there....

Another homework assignment for JP!!
Well, it will have to wait a bit. I pick up my unicorn tomorrow around 11 and that's all I can think about right now.
