I like the smell and clatter of the older turbo diesels too. The gut wrenching performance of a large displacement tuned turbodiesel is very addictive
Well it does not really get you unlimited mileage because the second contract is for a limited number of years but it will allow me to get coverage for around 200K. I did not write down the number of years you can get with a renewal so I cannot remember if it is 4 or 5 but better than 100K which is just over 3 years when I know I will try to keep it at least 8 or 9 years. Longer depending upon how it is holding up but it would feel great not having to worry about a major issue happening at the worst time.

My older Jetta really did clatter and I did not really mind it much but it had to tick my neighbors off in the winter before I got an engine heater because it was loud like a backhoe starting. I drive a gas truck and I hate driving it. So yes I am a diesel addict.

Oh I never tempted fate by going much beyond the suggested replacement point with the Jetta because if it did break the engine is toast.

JP. Could you let me know what you find out about Canadian lifetime warranties, I'm interested in this as well. I did email one of the US websites that was listed a few hundred pages back and that particular website was a US only plan. If I remember correctly is was something similar to Chryslerwarranty.com or close to that.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Was traveling and out of contact for about 18 hours. I was able to print my window sticker about an hour ago. Things are looking up again.

My dealer will sell me one for $2200 and it covers everything from powertrain to electronics. I went through both the factory and 3rd party contracts with a microscope and I couldn't find any differencers. I am seriously considering the lifetime as I plan on keeping this at least 10 years. I've heard the arguments for and against non-factory warranties, and the ones against typically don't have accurate information from what I can tell. Granted, you have to do your research as there are some bad ones out there....
Are you looking at CNA? My dealer is not participating with them so I found an outside dealer who was. After investigation, he told me that CNA cannot provide lifetime insurance/warranty coverage on the diesel as they will not provide terms that go beyond the manufacturers warranty.

Have you found another major company, other than CNA, that will give a lifetime warranty on a diesel?

There are a few things that should be considered if one looks at extended service contract:
1. In most states you will not be able to transfer a lifetime contract to a future buyer. If you plan to keep the CRD, it's a moot point, but if you plan to use the service contract as a selling uplift - lifetime will not work.
2. Most extended service contracts have a clause that terminates the contract if a claim is filed for a repair that has a higher cost than the vehicle value. Most costly repairs are happening when the car ages. If you think that such a contract will pay for a transmission replacement 10 years down the road, think twice!
3. Almost all extended service contracts start their clock when the odometer is at "0" (for milage), and when the original manufacturer warranty begins (for years), so a 7 year extended contract really only covers 2 years of powertrain (we got 5/100 on powertrain from Jeep). Extended contracts do offer additional benefits (such as towing and rental) during the Jeep original warranty.

Yes! Chiv can go 1st. I still have a warm ride in the morning. Just need the SFU before Thanksgiving as I don't trust my current ride to take to take a trip.
