1. In most states you will not be able to transfer a lifetime contract to a future buyer. If you plan to keep the CRD, it's a moot point, but if you plan to use the service contract as a selling uplift - lifetime will not work.
2. Most extended service contracts have a clause that terminates the contract if a claim is filed for a repair that has a higher cost than the vehicle value. Most costly repairs are happening when the car ages. If you think that such a contract will pay for a transmission replacement 10 years down the road, think twice!
3. Almost all extended service contracts start their clock when the odometer is at "0" (for milage), and when the original manufacturer warranty begins (for years), so a 7 year extended contract really only covers 2 years of powertrain (we got 5/100 on powertrain from Jeep). Extended contracts do offer additional benefits (such as towing and rental) during the Jeep original warranty.
You had to be the party pooper. Actually, good points. They wont cover major repairs in 10 years and the truck is worth $3,000 at that point. Also, they cover powertrain for5/50,000 anyway. This is my first diesel but I believe excursion when he says never had a problem. What to do?

Yey!!! I know this has been mentioned many times, but it's my turn...
Special thanks to Willx, Milous, Chevy and the numerous other "insiders" that are doing days, nights and weekends on the terminal and forum to feed our obsessions. As Vtail and others stated, your efforts here make our shopping experience unique. You should be rewarded by Chrysler for doing what you do. Actually you are doing better PR for Chrysler than the fancy PR guys on the top floor are.

THANK YOU!!!

I wish I could put in a special request for Chiv. If mine shows up I would even lend it to him for a couple of weeks. I don't needs it as bad as he does right now.

Diesels owned:

No engine repairs other than an injector pump rebuild and glow plugs on the Chevy at 210k.

1978 VW Rabbit Diesel (wrecked at 210k)
1983 Chevy Suburban 6.2L (sold at 240k)
Mercedes 300SD (220k still own)
2003 Ford Excursion 7.3L (160k still own)
1965 Ford 3000 tractor (still own)
1973 Ford 4000 tractor (still own)

About half the v8 gassers I've taken past 200k have suffered low oil pressure, overheating, etc.

Anything can happen, no doubt...but reliability hasn't been an issue across several diesel motor manufacturers over the years.

My point is that most diesels are overbuilt for continuous heavy use and are made to go the distance. If you don't overheat them and change the oil and filters, they just run.

I need a warranty contract to get me through 7 years and 200k+ for the transmission, electrical gadgetry, and air suspension.
