IMHO, when there are some around, we are going to see a massive take off and better saturation of diesel into other stuff (more vehicles and more models in those vehicles. Honestly once you have experienced driving these little 3.0 power plants, you can't go back!

I have said before, who cares that diesel is 10-15% more? That is only your long term cost factor. People don't run out and always buy the "cheapest" car, they buy the car they want! ironically, no matter what this one will start paying you back.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I've kept kinda quite on this subject but we always compare diesel to gas, but regular grade gas as a savings since the diesel is typically higher in price so there's that 10-15% difference. The largest factor for me was; I currently have to put Premium in my tank and until this week the local stations were within 5-10 cents sometimes gas cheaper and sometimes diesel cheaper. While sure it will cost more to fill the diesel gc versus the v6 or v8 gassers, the price per mile when compared to my current car isn't much different and in many cases less than my current rocket ship by going the Diesel GC route. Anyone else in a similar situation?

As the Hemi requires mid-grade the spread is usually cut down there as well.

I also find the gassers under perform their mileage ratings while diesels can easily over perform (especially at higher speeds).

Exactly!
My Aviator was averaging 16.0 l/100 and using premium fuel which is generally 20-22 cents per litre more than regular. And diesel is generally 1-2 cents per litre less than regular(or same price-changes all the time). So, from my point of view, if fuel savings works out as anticipated, my annual fuel cost could drop by as much as 50% which means, for me, premium paid for diesel will be recovered in 2 years or less.
I kept the aviator 11 years and I expect to keep the jeep a long time so diesel makes sense. Also planning to get a boat next year so towing capability also a consideration.

Due to crooked politicians taxes on diesel in the States tends to make diesel more expensive than even premium gas... wish our price ratios were more in line with the rest of the world. Of course I DON'T wish our actual prices were as we still pay a LOT less per gallon than most.

So I spoke to one of my GM Dealer friends after reading about that and even he says GM is very much worrying him these days. He drove the RAM recently with the 8 speed and even he said he is in trouble.
I believe GM is still quietly but largely owned by the Federal Government. Was just under 50%? Perhaps the same efficiency experts in charge of the rollout have a say in GMs power trains. That would explain their thought processes.

Went to the link. Do you recommend waiting to see if we have problems, or doing this right off the bat?

I am actually more involved with GM than Jeep (only because of my history). They are YEARS away from developing smaller Diesels for their SUVs that they can use here.

That and they really only just got working on their 9 speed with Ford and it will never be up to the standards of the ZF 8 Speed.

I was born into the GM world, but I have truly given up on them with the release of the 2014 pickups.
