Re: 2014 diesel production

Just got back from the dealer having never been in one before. I looked at an Overland in white which is probably what I will order (Limited). I noticed that the JGC has some pretty good blind sports at the rear pillar area. I am going to have to test drive to see how bad this is. Also the step up is pretty high and my wife is short 5' 3". With the chrome running board might be an issue.
On the positive side the drivers and pass front seats are cooled and heated. Cooled front seats are a really big deal so very happy to see that. Helping during the wife-husband negotiations.

Looking forward to testing driving one of these and see how it goes.

I know I am looking at an 8 week wait once ordered but no big deal.

Any as a long time SuperDuty driver, sold it last year my mileage for this 7000 pound beast was 17.5-19.1 regardless of in town or interstate at 76 mph. Have seen over 20 when driving 45-55 mph. This with an old 4spd auto 99 model crew cab.

I think it is very realistic given the cD and the wetted area of the JGC to get that 28 mpg with the 4x4.

Lastly a question.
How many quarts of oil and how often for the change on this 3.0L V-6 diesel?
My SD was 15 qts every 5000 miles...

Re: 2014 diesel production

Got to play with a Cherokee the other day. Dealer took me out to a show and go they were doing with other dealers in the area to get a feel for the new rides and get the marketing bits.

SWMBO loved the damn thing, but made the poor guy cry when she asked, "When does this get the diesel engine?"

She's addicted to the torque and seeing MPG's that never drop into the teens...

Something strangely hot about a woman that digs on a diesel.

Re: 2014 diesel production

With regards to the 3M film protection, Webber had it applied to his Overland. There are pics posted on the Aussie thread - Page 360 - Post numbers #4313 and 4319.

Re: 2014 diesel production

If MOTS hasn't already made me crazy, my SFU's final destination is Wisconsin. How come the rail car just went from Oakwood, MI to Montpelier, OH ie. heading southeast?

I believe one of the "insiders" stated that the rail schedule will drive us all nuts when trains will 1st head south, then go back north for destination.

I had it done on my 2003 Murano by the dealer (actually someone they contracted to do it) and it has worked well and still looks good. I talked to a very knowledgable guy at skipchips.com in Mpls. Just thought I'd share a couple things I gleaned from him. First they use the top products on the market. I'm an old 3M guy and I didn't like hearing that although they sell 3M film its not what they recommend based on their extensive experience. They use Xpel, but he said in response (they work closely with 3M) 3M is coming out with a newer film in 6 - 12 months. Xpel has a 10 year warranty vs 5 for 3M and many other suppliers. Secondly, they laser cut the film using computerized templates rather than cutting the film on the vehicle as some do, which can damage the paint. Third, they recommend not putting any kind of wax or sealer on the paint before applying any film. Fourth, and I find this to probably be a huge difference between a quality job and some untrained person, they claybar the area where the film will be applied. According to him this makes a big difference in the long term durability of the application. Lastly I asked him how they treat the area around the Jeep emblem on the hood. He said there are two ways to do it - one is to cut out the film around it, the other way is to carefully remove the emblem (it is attached with double sticky tape according to him), put the film on then reapply the emblem on top of the film. He pushed the latter method, using a template to carefully position the emblem exactly as it was before. I have to think about that one, as the emblem is now attached to the film rather than the paint on the hood. But he said it will look much better and they have had no issues doing it this way. I'm going to have him do the front of the hood, bumper, lower facia, door handle insets and the edges of all the doors. $799. Expensive yes, but when I'm spending $50k+ on a vehicle I plan to keep at least 10 years, the annual amortization of the difference between cheaper film and a low quality install is negligible.
Is he doing the full hood or partial ?

Thanks. Yeah, I shouldn't really try to figure out the algorithm on the most efficient way to move freight.

The original is an Excel spreadsheet that will allow others to expand/condense/modify as desired. If anyone wants a copy of the spreadsheet, just send a PM containing your email address and I will send a copy of the file.

I hope to put mine to use in about 14 days.
This is a great document and job well done. Would it be possible to have higher res pics in the PDF? The ones there have some blobs that are all blurred.

Yes, this was me.

DO NOT analyze the Train Routes.... Your head will explode all over your computer/mobile interface.

Trains may travel in completely the opposite direction to meet in a rail yard to exchange rail cars to move to another location. If you could see all 10,000 some odd cars moving via rail in a day it would make perfect sense why the rail companies do this because it is fast and efficient when you look at as a whole not just on a per unit basis.

Looks like my SFU is headed the same way as yours. It was last seen in Oakwood, MI at 8:04 this morning. I know exactly where it will end up, there is a massive car lot near where I work that all the trains bring the vehicles too, no matter who the Mfg is.

Thanks much, just waiting to hear about first impressions of the diesel so I can make up my mind. Thanks
