Re: 2014 diesel production

That article was one of the reasons I ended up test driving the Porsche Cayenne. It was its road hugging abilities that sold me.

On another news, I was watching the YouTube channel for the Fast Lane Car Guys. The latest clip was about the Dodge Ram diesel. I believe now that Chrysler is holding up the GCD so that it can introduce the engine in both the GC and the Ram truck.

That's been suggested previously. It's not a bad take. There's also clear evidence that the EPA certification had not been completed. They could have done that on purpose to make it look like that was the issue.

I'm a big conspiracy investigator so since they're NOT TELLING US ANYTHING we must gather facts and postulate our own theories.

Re: 2014 diesel production

It would be interesting to know how many people actually cross shop the Cayenne and the GC? I mean real buyers btw, not folks that looked at it for the hell of it while shopping other mid size cars of this type. This is something that applies to me, I looked at the Cayenne because there is a dealer across the street from the bmw dealer where I get my car serviced. I already knew that as I would want to configure the Cayenne it was sitting at a 96k msrp and I it was not a vehicle that I would buy at that price. So while having scoped it out I cant really say I cross shopped it since it was never a potential buy.

It seems to me that the price of these cars is far enough apart that they are not natural competitors despite being the same type car and the fact that one will occasionally lose sales to the other as described in this thread. Looking at the rest of the bunch the GC would be 58 as I option it, the VW 60 and the X5 69. These I think do compete against one another naturally. Both the same type car and the pricing is close enough that many people will cross shop them.

In any event I tend to discount the P car from the results for this reason, its just not playing in the same ballpark as the others even if it is playing the same game.

To be honest I'm begining to think Jeep has done me a favor of sorts by not getting the diesel GC out. I will now shop the upcoming 14 Q5 and X5 diesels which may be a better fit for me since I'm wanting the diesel to tow my bass boat and the off road worthiness of the GC while comforting will go largely unused outside of unimproved launch ramps.

I would love to know exactly what the delay is. My Murano is starting to have issues with the electric power steering and I choose to wait based on Chrysler-Jeeps early mid year announcements which have been a real let down. Now it will most likely cost $2000 in repairs because I'm now out of my extended warranty. I love the JGC but I'm beginning to despise these guys.

I received an email directly from Chrysler stating that it was due to the EPA certification. I posted it earlier in this thread. I can re-post it or email to you directly the exact email if you would like.

Not to snap at you, but this is exactly the friggin' problem. They say one thing, we hear something else, it's denied, then that's retracted.

If you say that it's not the EPA, then please tell us who your source is and what they are telling you and how it is that they know.

I won't replace my Super Duty with the Grand Cherokee. In fact it can't. The Grand Cherokee is a lightweight toy in comparison! The GC CRD will be a nice light duty 4 passenger business vehicle that should provide economy and decent performance....IF THEY EVER RELEASE THE D*%* THING.

I realize you don't care however the FACT is that I was told by Chrysler that EPA was the issue. Don't you understand how that is extremely misleading and frustrating?

I do understand that you cannot reveal your sources. You could at least say it's a corporate puke or an engineer or a guy on the line so that it gives us some idea of the credibility of the source. Will you or anyone else EVER be able to inform us as to why it has been delayed so long?

Until then, the only FACTS I can go off of are the lack of EPA certification that someone found on the official gov't website and the email I received from Chrysler directly.

Those two items add up to a convincing argument if you ask me.

mceb is on a distinguished road
I'll go with aligning launch with Ram. May not have started out that way but could have morphed into it after an earlier delay. Sad part is real truth may never come out. I got frustrated and bailed out to gas overland so I have no dog in this hunt but still curious

Re: 2014 diesel production

No, you were told that EPA certification was the issue and not that the EPA was the issue. Big difference. Maybe I have read too many contracts but my understanding is that in most cases the manufacturer does all of the testing and then sbmits the application to the EPA and this also eventually gets onto fueleconomy.gov.

So the question (if you care) should go to the EPA and not Chrysler whether they have received the application for certification. If so how long does it usually take for it to go through the process ? I suspect they have not received it yet.

It all comes down to marketting.

BTW what is with all of these pop-up advertisements for Optima and such that must clear before the forum comes up. That is annoying.
