Re: 2014 diesel production

Sorry 4Jeepdiesel... but I would have to agree with Scott... some idiot who responds to emails for Jeep customer care isn't going to know a damn thing. Scott has a very good history and reputation on here. If he says its not the EPA, its not the EPA. And honestly, that reason doesn't pass the stink test.

Whatever the reason is, it has to do with 1 thing and 1 thing only. MONEY.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I have been driving a Summit Hemi for the last couple of days and it is really growing on me. Mileage is better than the Durango by a fair shot and I am almost thinking I could get used to this.

Quick Chivvalry Slap ME!

I tow A LOT.... We will see how my towing test goes. I will do a proper write up comparing it to the RAM I tested a couple of weeks back.

With a gas burner, expect the fuel mileage to drop to half or worse if you tow heavy or with a lot of wind resistance (RV or box trailer). Gas engines lose their efficiency when under a load. The diesel will likely achieve towing mileage similar to the Hemi's unloaded.

Also, fuel consumption stays nearly the same when driving it hard, just an awesome engine, can't say the same for my 6lt hsv clubsport, yes more performance but you pay for it!.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I am very aware of the fuel savings and low variences onder heavy loads and higher speed driving in the Diesels for sure. I had an ML320 Bluetec and it was 210 Horse and 400 Foot Pounds. It towed my 7180 Pound trailer like nothing and is a huge factor in me deciding to go EcoDiesel. I also have towed about a half dozen other trailers over the years ranging from 4500-14,000 Pounds using various vehicles including different generations of the Duramax / Allison Combinations. So trust me i know why I want Diesel and the benifits.

What was interesting is how much better the JGC with the 8 speed was over my current Durango. I realize there is a slight size difference but the 8 speed seems to be making up more than a fair share of the savings.

I have also read how much people like towing with the new 8 speed and this is more what my tow test is about. What numbers do I get with the trailer on in comparison to the 2013 RAM Laramie Longhorn I tried (6 Speed). I had a belief it was the extra horsepower and torque that got me another mile per Gallon in the pickup vs the Durango but we will see.

I am testing some proven ideas about towing and with a pickup vs an SUV, I expect all it will do is prove to me that the Tranny is a nice match up and I will be even more impatient with waiting for the Diesel.

I have already had the trailer hooked up and taken it for a test run. Air Suspension and transmission so far have exceeded my expectations because the engineers have put some thought into the implimentation. As noted though I will do a full run down in the next couple of days.
