Re: 2014 diesel production

The injectors maybe have gone from 1800 bar to 2000 bar. Meaning the 1800 bar injectors couldn't operate at maximum pressure the Distribution rail was capable of: 2000 bar = 29,000 psi.

Does this mean the current JGC CRD's they're shipping to the EU do not have the new 2000 bar solenoid injectors?

This would mean the VM Motori 630's made for the USA JGC are different than the VM Motori 630's made for the EU JGC.

So, are you saying the New 2014 JGC CRD for the USA has a completely brand new Fuel Injection System that has not been on any previous model?

This would make the DEF system a drop in the bucket.

It would seem, the torque difference translates to the (old injection system) 550 Nm(405 lb-ft) to (New injection system) 570 Nm(420 lb-ft).

Re: 2014 diesel production

It would seem from Milous' comment that Euro CRDs will not receive the upgrades the US spec motor gets, but it could just be me reading into something that doesn't exist.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I found this tidbit:

Quote:
3.0-liter V-6 turbo diesel engine with Multijet II

The 3.0-litre V-6 turbo-diesel engine produces maximum power of 250 Hp at 4,000 rpm and torque of 570 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Fuel economy for the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine is 7.5 L/100km on the combined cycle, with a 10 percent improvement in comparison to the previous model. CO2 emissions are now at 198 g/km, with a 9 percent overall reduction. The 3.0-litre CRD powertrain is also offered in a low-output version, delivering 190 Hp of power at 4,000 rpm and 440 Nm of torque across 1,600 - 2,800 rpm.
I found this here: Jeep Grand Cherokee EU-Version (2014)

I'm more confused than ever. Here the EU version has the 570 N-m of torque, up from 550 N-m the year before.
Does this mean it has the new Injection System?

EDIT: After reading that article further it did say it had an 1,800 bar injection system.

Hmmmmm same Torque, different injection system, something doesn't seem quite right.

Re: 2014 diesel production

Well, there is only one reason why Chrysler has to change the system for North America: EPA emission requirements.

I wonder what are the engines that Australians are receiving. I got the feeling it is the Euro spec ones.

Re: 2014 diesel production

We are officially bowing out on the diesel wait and have decided to focus on other brands. Most likely we will end up with an Acura MDX or Infiniti QX60 hybrid ... Possibly BMW X5. Tired of the runaround and also concerned about the reliability of the 2014 due to reported problems. We also decided we don't need something this heavy, bulky and more truck-based. I wish you guys the best of luck in your diesel wait. I will be checking in to see your progress and reports on the diesel.

i understand your frustration... only one comment. The Jeep is not truck like really. It is still a unibody the same as the MDX however It is a much stronger structure.

The new Infiniti QX60 hybrid does look intriguing. Really good mpg and if you don't need the towing or off road capabilities of the GC it could be a good alternative. Price wise they look pretty competitive as well. I may go drive one of the non-hybrids which I think are already available just to see what they are like.

What I will say about them - nice crossover, wonderful interior and tech features. I really liked the functioning of the Nav and the ability to use touch screen or knob with iPad/iPod functioning. The ventilated seats seemed to really work well. Felt a touch underpowered and the CVT was a bit slow to provide power. Definitely drives more like an SUV than a crossover when compared to others in the segment.
