....unfortunately is being pushed back to the 3rd quarter. From an excellent source. Sorry folks

The registration expires on my 2008 GC CRD at the end of this month... Even though it's not that much money, I will be pretty P.O.'d if I have to renew it before I can trade it in towards my new Jeep that has just been sitting somewhere since late September.

Actually, I think mine is the only Limited CRD that shows nothing beyond "Built - Pending Inspection: (I) 09/26/2013 01:26 AM EDT Detroit Jefferson Assembly, MI"

The other Limiteds on Milous' list move around ramps and bays, but I guess mine really is getting the 100% inspection!

I just stopped by my dealer and was provided a copy an email from the Chrysler Area Sales Manager for the Houston TX area..Email dated 10/8 at 2:45 pm reads as follows:

"The latest ETA on shipping Grand Cherokee Diesel is 10/17."

Notice the message says the LATEST date.

While hopeful, I'm not betting the farm.

I still find it almost amazing the Chrysler would have gone ahead and started building these things if all the i's weren't dotted and t's crossed. Seems like a pretty risky business decision. Wonder how Audi got its new 3.0 TDI certified and started delivering them in September. Maybe it is the same drive train as the Toureg, but I don't know. They seem to have done it right.

#3,938 ·
Audi, VW and Porsche share the same engine. I believe Audi and VW has the same set up on the Toureg and Q7. Porsche's has a little difference in the fuel and software system. The VW V6 TDI for the Toureg and Q7 has been in the market for a few years. Porsche's came last year. I think this year, Audi introduced mainly the same engine (hp seems to have gone up) on the Q5, A6 and A7. So, I bet certification carries over. Either that, or the VW engine had a better time passing the tests.

You should get a VON from the dealer the moment they submit and Chrysler accepts the order. This is immediate. D1 status is about 2 weeks later and your vehicle should be built in 3-4 weeks. Then it will sit in Inspection until it ships barring any holds for quality, etc.

This has been the average experience recently but could vary significantly.

Production question: (not that it matters much until shipping begins) The Summit CRD's with a D1 of 9/20 and 9/21 have been built. The Limited's with the same D1 dates (including mine) have not been built. Are production schedules batched by model?

While it looks like a good chuck of you are here....

I wanted to thank everyone on here for all of the well wishes for my Wedding. I honestly had no idea that I would get the response that I did from you guys. I have to say that I was really blown away by the number of wonderful comments and never have I felt really so much truly part of such a far slung group before.

Sometimes you take it for granted just how well you get to know people here and it was wonderful to peek in at all of the comments while I was running around like and insane man (in a Kilt no less).

So thank you again for all of the support, and yes, I did need to peek in occationally. Not because I was worried about the Diesels but because I loved to read all the comments.

You all ROCK!!
Will,

Will,
Sorry I missed sending you well-wishes earlier. I was away from JG for a little while, and then got tied up with recent posts.

But I'd like to also wish you the best of luck, though it sounds like you may not need it. Any woman willing to put up with you checking JG in the midst of wedding festivities is a definite keeper! Just make sure not to take advantage of her leniency!

You've helped keep my sanity during this process, so I thank you so much for all you do.

Seriously dude, she's gunna either punch you in the neck or cut off your... internet connection.

You are making a very strong case to stay out of CA. I would lose my mind dealing with the overbearing bureaucracy. I have several hotrods and I'd relocate before relenting to CA regulators.

My ODB2 compliance remark jibes with your explanation. They want their emissions diagnostic protocols 100% supported when nobody else requires it. They force the manufacturer to pay fines.

Thanks for your insight. I didn't realize how crazy it was out there.

Sorry, I have bailed on the diesel. My dealer has one 4x4 JGC. It just happens to be the exact one I wanted except with the HEMI™ + a CD player and minus the Block heater. It's like I went back in time and ordered the HEMI™. If they ship next week, well, I have my LifeTime warranty to keep me warm at night.

Also, I went next door to tell my neighbor and my other neighbor was there as well having just filled his Diesel Mercedes with Gasoline; watch out for the color codes at Hess Green for Gas and Orange for Diesel. I have the feeling this was meant to be. I'll still be driving a diesel motorhome. And every time I stop for gas with half the range of the diesel I will not be happy.

I will still be hoping for you guys as I watch my car practically drive itself in heavy traffic next week. Already checked the sticker for the stop...

I took the HEMI on a test drive. It was pretty awesome.

And to think, I was so close to leasing an Explorer Sport for 2 years last year. I would have been half way through my lease by now. But instead, I decided to wait a few months for the GC diesel. At this point, I'm still waiting. Putting the Outback up for sale this week. Trying to stay positive. The Outback does look nice with its fresh coat of wax, vacuumed interior and clean windows!

Well gang, we just lost one (Commando) from the diesel group. From the sounds of it, most of us in here are close to our breaking points due to the frustration with Jeep and the constant delays and hold ups. Too much longer, and they won't have to worry about releasing them, because there won't be anybody to buy them. They have offended each and every one of us with the lack of information, lies, and delays. The only thing keeping me from canceling my order is that I have been waiting since last January, and I am hoping there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The problem is the tunnel keeps getting longer and longer. I wish someone from corporate Jeep would read this thread to realize how they are upsetting their loyal customers. The loyalty is starting to dwindle, and too much longer, and I (and from the sounds of it, a lot of others) will start to look elsewhere. I appreciate everything the working men and women at JNAP do for us, but the corporate big wigs can go suck an egg for all I care.

You didn't lose him. He just went with a HEMI GC instead. I think losing him would be if he went to another brand. I think Chrysler would be just as happy selling someone a HEMI model, maybe even more so after paying all the fines for the Diesel.

Even if they are making way more bank on the Hemi, it still seems crazy that people are jumping ship on something that was supposed to be released months ago and no real reason (Publicly) for why it hasn't. At this point I'm still on board, but at the days keep wearing on it sounds like other people besides myself my be following Commando.

I have to admit, I am getting discouraged. Dealer and customer service both know next to nothing.
If it's an EPA issue, they should still be able to ship to Canada.
Sadly even Canada bows to California wisdom in this regard. In regards to this Canada simply accepts the cert in kind, they do there own testing but they won't accept it if it doesn't pass California. No I don't live in Cali.

I know this has been discussed a few times but has anyone seen an apples to apples comparison in 0-60 times for all engines? I keep finding summit diesel and v8 times but only the much lighter limited v6 gas time. This makes the gas appear faster (7.7 seconds vs diesel 7.77) than the diesel.

I'm not looking for the fastest car available or I'd get the hemi or SRT but I do find it disturbing the v6 gas could be same or faster...

#3,979 ·
I have no physical data, but I have driven the diesel and spent a great deal of time in both the V6 and V8 gas... IMHO, the V6 might get a slight lead on you off the line but the diesel will blow it out of the water. I also felt that the Diesel pulled me into the seat harder than the Gas V8 but again not dealing with instruments.

Aye, there's the rub. In the US and nearly every way except MPG and maintenance, the Hemi has the Diesel beat.

OTOH, in order to meet government mandated requirements, diesels are necessary.

Must admit I find the current electric-hybrid hype amusing but suspect in the long term the TCO is going to be more than anyone admits. CVTs make more sense (though torque limited) in almost every way and if the electric companies ever go to a rate escalation scheme, electric owners are liable to be in for a surprise.

In the long term external combustion (e.g.steam) could be more efficient than battery.

But today and now the simple fact is that we already have all of the logistics in place for diesel. Nothing else can reduce the total national energy budget as fast or as inexpensively. Electric would make the most sense if we had near total nuclear or natural (wind, tidal, solar) power generation. We may some day but not now.

"Blem wit" this for CJF is that for the critical holiday season, the new diesels are sitting in storage. Personally, I'd rather have a diesel but the Pentastar in my Heep is fine for now. It does exactly what I want it to & is the best tow car I've had.

ANFSCD: Without knowing exactly what the twelve OBD-II deficiencies were, I think it unfair to gripe about CARB. Particularly those who live in the "valley of smoke" have special needs and I remember being in a Hertz Pinto heading to Edwards when the radio announcer said the air quality had improved to "unhealthy" - one of the reasons I live in Florida, here the water does not need to be imported.

I agree wholeheartedly. Diesel is the next logical step in vehicle powerplants and energy independence. When you consider a hybrids increased TCO and limited battery life expectancy they really don't make sense compared to diesel. If you want outright MPGs, the VW Passat, Gulf, and Jetta diesels are getting 42-43 MPGs. If you want hauling power and size, the hybrid Tahoe is only getting 20-23 mpg while the JGC CRD should blow those numbers away.

So gas is on its way out, hybrids don't make sense compared to diesels, we don't yet have the infrastructure for everyone to drive a pure electric vehicle, and fuel cell technology is not there yet.

Diesel is the next sweet spot and likely will be for the life expectancy of our vehicles.

For what it's worth, they keep building the diesels. Mine just went to final inspection on VOTS (after going into production on Monday). Still D1 on MOTS though.

So it seems like Chrysler is confident they will be able to start shipping them at some (undefined) point - otherwise why would they keep making them?

#3,989 ·
As I said before they may be just using up the engines that have already been shipped. It take a a few weeks from shipping to arrival from Italy. Also if they stop shipping it would takes weeks to start getting more once they run out.

I am not as encouraged by the fact they are still building as I was before.

#3,983 ·
My confusion lies in the fact the Milous said earlier that the delay was not due to something needing to be "fixed" If they are trying to tune the diesels to improve the ratings for California so they do not have to pay as big of a fine, I view that as something needing to be fixed. Or, is is just that California did not give it's final blessing until 10/3 and then the EPA needs to give it's final blessing - but it is too late, as uncle sam is on vacation.

I've been wanting one of these since Jeep first announced that they were going to release a diesel back in late 2011. For me, this is less frustrating than what we were going through back in March when we were constantly having Lucy pull the ball away and we constantly went back to try and kick it again.

While I wouldn't be happy, I would wait a few more months if I absolutely had to. Of course I am less frustrated because my truck has not been built and sitting on a lot for a month. Also, I am not driving my bike to work in the rain because I had to get rid of my other vehicle. That is more frustrating.

Winna winna chicken dinna!!

However, I am in this to win it. I WILL HAVE MY DIESEL DAMN IT!!!
