Eh, I say let people do what they want. Natural selection and all that.

This is completely hypothetical. That said, find me three cases of CO poisoning from a diesel engine of any kind in the passed 50 years.

I have personally known at least 2 people killed by gasoline engine exhaust.

I have seen reports of people killed by their gas dryer.

I know lots of people that have gas stoves.

All indoor gas appliances, (e.g. stoves) produce Carbon Monoxide.

A gas pool heater killed a man at a Holiday Inn Express.

The state of Kentucky did a study because of a death that could be attributed to diesel exhaust; the finding was:
From the "Kentucky Office of Forensic Toxicology" report:
Quote:
Lastly, an extensive literature review produced no scientifically reported cases of fatal CO poisoning attributed to diesel fuel exhaust.

Re: 2014 diesel production

That's pretty much my point. As long as you realize the possibility, it's your choice to make.

I personally think sitting in a closed garage with a running car is a bad choice, as the benefits seem non-existent for whatever level of risk there may be. But who am I to prevent others from removing themselves from the gene pool?

Speaking now as an over the road trucker, (I run Detroit to Chicago to Atlanta on my 2 off days in the middle of the week most weeks), I can tell you that we don't have this worry bc most of us don't get any sleep! Lol..

When I get off work (JNAP) on Wednesday morning, I'm lucky if I get 8hrs sleep between all of Wednesday and Thursday. Then I have to be back in the plant at 4am on Friday.. That in conjunction with most truckstops lacking garages makes us safe on the CO. It's the scales I worry about. 80k max gross? Ha!

Back to the point: There is no diesel exhaust smell. The closest you will come in the future is an Oil Furnace or a Jet Engine.

Re: 2014 diesel production

There could not be a poisoning by co by diesesl engines, because they always work with an excess of air! Its not comparable with gas engines where gas and air gets mixed before burning and mixture relation is reponsible for toxic gases.
Probably the air comes cleaner out of te exhaust than it gets in the engine....
CO2 might be a Problem, but you would notice that.

Good luck

Re: 2014 diesel production

All correctly controlled combustion utilizes excess air beyond what is required by the stochiometric ratio for that fuel. Excess air is needed to control excess production of NOx and SOx, as well as CO to a lesser extent.

Re: 2014 diesel production

How did a Diesel production thread got into a discussion of whether it is ok to sit in a garage with the engine running?

Please don't experiment on something that has no value to anyone here just to prove a point.

I used the example of the garage to illustrate the point there is no diesel odor from new diesel engines. When someone brought up the point about CO dangers. I felt it was a good time to show the inherent safety of diesel engines.

Unless your guys Eco diesel is so Eco it doesn't have the same smell as ours, you'll get a bit of a diesel smell and rattle l in the morning when you first crank that big bad beauty up ... Then the sound and smell go for the day
