I was also amazed that the service reps or the supervisor did not have the authority to make a simple and logical business decision. They both quickly agreed it made sense but said they had no authority.

Most complaint departments are really only palliative in nature, just a way for customers to blow off steam. I agree with you that it's worth a shot but I'm not surprised you received that response.
If I may make a suggestion, when you go to purchase and they give you their "best last final number", just cut'em down $500 or ask for $500 worth of extras (oil changes, accessories, beer).

Hmmm... I think I just discovered a way to save money on my therapist sessions I had to start due to the diesel being repeatedly delayed.

Totally agree and that is likely what I'll do. Perhaps they are getting another set of coupons ready to send out in time for the launch of the CRD....wishful thinking!

The good(?) thing is that I still haven't sold the Acura yet so the latest nasty stormy days haven't resulted in me riding the scoot to and from work in the rain...

I did ride yesterday and this morning and both days I observed a real pretty '14 SRT on Franklin Road in Cranberry Twp. This morning I was right behind it for a mile or so and he lightly got into the gas once... boy that thing sounded good.

From U.S. News car info: "For 2014, BMW adds a new base model, the sDrive35i, which is the first rear-wheel drive X5 BMW has offered. Other models, all of which have all-wheel drive, include the xDrive35i, which starts at $56,025, xDrive35d (diesel), which starts at $57,525, and xDrive50i, which starts at $69,125."

So the base X5 diesel will start at over $57k, which will easily top $60k with options. I keep looking at alternatives, but the CRD looks like the value winner. I'm looking at around $51k for my Summit CRD with the Affiliate Reward program, and the dealer is throwing in a free lifetime powertrain warranty. I did some homework on the warranty provider and they've been in business since 1982, so they should still be around in 10 years when I'm still driving my CRD. I also confirmed that they will include the diesel in their lifetime powertrain warranty whereas Chrysler will not.

Re: 2014 diesel production

I do agree that even at $52+ for the Summit, the CRD is the best deal around. Can't be happier for those who have the patience in waiting, specially those who decided on a CRD way back in January.
