Chevy,

I meant in more general terms in regards to all of your comments.... I know you provide good info and needing to repeat yourself is moderately annoying!

Thanks for taking the time, I didn't think there were any major delays and possibly my original guess on the start of the KZ bunch still may hold true ;)

If you ordered a diesel, they are turbo.

Mine was sent from the paint room to the drag strip, back to the paint room, then to the Indy track, back to the paint room, then to the Utah salt flats, back to the paint room, then attached to a space shuttle....who knows what is next (I am assuming back to the paint room) :D

Yeah, I'm looking at the Cooper AT3 Discoverer in 265/65/r18... slightly larger than stock at 31.6" x 10.4". Supposed to be some good shoes.

#2,678 ·
Yeah Cooper still makes good tires.. I just put 8 of em on the big truck yesterday. $3400, last abt 2 years.

Did any of the other guys who swapped ever post pics or give reviews of the Jeep with 'better' tires? I know SnoFire had a deal in place to swap his before he even took delivery.

Went to D1 today Woohoo!
It seems like the general theory of scheduling applies here. Though my order date was two weeks away from the majority batch here, my delivery date (taken with a grain of salt) seems to be more or less piled up with everyone else.

So my dealership just called with an end of the month delivery date on an ordered not paid for vehicle. They say that I need to come in and fill out the paperwork and do payment??? I told them I would pay when I visually inspect vehicle sales person became irritated and said thats how ot works?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you agree on the price for the car? Do have anything that says the car is for you when it comes? When i ordered my JGC diesel, I left a deposit and got an order confirmation than had the price we agreed upon on it. Without that they can sell the car to anybody when it arrives...

Maybe they just want you to come in and leave a deposit? That's kind of stupid of them though if they already ordered the car for you...

#2,685 ·
You can go over all the paperwork you want with them. However, I would not sign ANYTHING that commits you to purchasing the vehicle until it has arrived and you've inspected it. If they balk at that, walk and re-order with a better dealer. I know that isn't pleasant and it means another wait but asking you to pay for the vehicle before you have it is just unnecessary and shady IMHO.

Bummer, just got an email from my dealer. The only way to get the $500 discount is if it is shipped by Monday.

Newbie looking for some direction.

I have signed up as a level IV member so I can track my order. Now that I have done that - what is the next step. I'm sure it's listed somewhere on the site - but I could not find it.

Like most of you I have been looking forward to the Diesel Grand Cherokee for some time. My pride and joy is a 1980 International Scout II Diesel - it's about time we have another opportunity for a Diesel SUV.

Thanks in advance for the assist.

Wow. The Scout Diesel was the FIRST of its type (that I know of). Let this be an example of just how long these diesel vehicles can run! Has it been in operation all this time?

Read post #1 in the tracking thread for instructions on adding your Jeep to Milous Online Tracking

It is reasonable for them to ask for a reasonable deposit to hold the vehicle for you. This should be stipulated as being refundable in the event you don't take delivery. It is NOT reasonable for them to expect full payment on the vehicle--nor should you do that, or sign any binding contract indicating you must take delivery of the vehicle.

My dealer asked and I put down $500 for my order

First dealer wanted $500 down. Gave him the money back in March. When I found a MUCH better deal (thru here of course), I canceled my order, and placed my order with another dealer. He wanted $200 down. You should never have to pay more than 10% down. It just assures the dealer that you are a serious buyer, as they do not want to order a custom build, and have you turn it down on delivery. If they want you to sign for a build they pre-ordered, they are nuts. $500 max down, or go to another dealer and order. This way, you get it built exactly the way you want. Also, with the hold up at this time, it looks like orders placed now will probably be released about the same time the current builds are released.

^This.

Actually I think ppl should already be seeing faster progression thru the whole process from (D) to (I) now. The lots are pretty full, and if Vegas had a line on the shipping (over/under 7 days from today), I'd take the under on yours for $1k. Lol..

Last night I saw my first Grand Cherokee commercial where they zoomed in on the Ecodiesel badging. Let the media blitz begin...

You know, a lot of the country who are ignorant to diesels are gonna start looking at them now bc of the premium brands advertising. Ironically, I think that new Audi ad with the ppl screaming at the lady picking up the diesel nozzle, is gonna do A LOT for the Jeep's sales, bc it sparks an interest in diesel with those who wouldn't otherwise consider it. It's like they're validating Diesel engines as worth the extra money, and so it'll be easier for salesmen to upsell our stuff as the culture surrounding em changes.

Oh, and just a quick note on delivery dates, bc Commando (I think) brought it up the other day, and I forgot to touch on it.. The delivery dates are essentially an approximation, not intentionally, but bc of the many circumstances that change build dates.

In a perfect world the delivery dates would be spot on, or deliveries would beat the date. But bc of line stops, breakdowns, scrap builds, bad parts, parts shortages/late deliveries, paint reprocess, repairs after final assembly, transportation schedules, etc.., the delivery dates often don't match up with what they told you. Especially at launch.

For example; your car is scheduled to be built today, and they give you a delivery date 4 weeks from now. We build the body, but it needs a new fender hung on it bc on doesn't pass. (Reprocess.) Fender gets hung on it and she goes to paint. Paint shop fails the car bc of a blemish on the hood caused from too much oil on it that didn't come off in the acid wash beforehand, or whatever. (Again, reprocess.. Hood comes off, and get redone or replaced.) Car passes then goes to assembly. Car proceeds thru assembly without issue but fails inspection bc of a low brake pedal, and sumn else. (Repairs are completed.) Then it goes KZ... But maybe it can't ship right away now, bc it's a couple days past when it was scheduled to be built. So now maybe it has to find a new ride out of town. Which isn't likely bc the shipping is based on completed "ready to ship" cars, but you get the point.. Things don't usually flow smooth for long. So delivery dates are more of a rough approximation than a guarantee.

So why doesn't Chrysler just change the dates when they see it won't make the date? Well I have my theory, but idk how true it is. But the obvious reason is they don't like to change it (as Willx said in the other thread) bc they're eternal optimist I guess. That and when things get delayed early in a build, that doesn't guarantee it won't finish on time. Some days we build more cars than normal. Or they'll work us thru breaks and lunch to catch up. Or add a Sunday. Etc.. So there's ways to make up the loss. Not financially, but production wise.

But honestly, right now I'd say the biggest reason you guys' dates are so terribly off is bc the "delivery projection system," if you will, doesn't account for them holding these first builds. So they may as well suck it up and change the damn dates. :)

HEY! They're saying 9/22 delivery now for my newly built but still showing "I" status shiny new skittle and rainbow farting unicorn....

SO IT BETTER BE THERE ON 9/22 OR.....

I'm going to just have to wait a bit longer...

Edit: anyone want to buy a 2005 Acura TL real cheap?

I am going to go out on a limb here and probably catch crap for it but seeing as Chevy has shared such good info I don't think this is too bad.

The dates for the "shipments" that I had seen for some of the earlier completed diesels are "different" than the ones that were building in the last 24 hours or so..... some info was "missing" on those original builds that showed for someone like Chivvalry. Now as usual Chiv's info updated the day after but if you add in the approximate 2 days delay that happened a little while back there is a pattern.

In other words I think Chevy's over under bet is not only dead on but might even be short of that :D

Now that is speculation but based on some factual information.

For those that haven't seen it, here is the new Audi TDI commercial. I wonder if Jeep will come up with some clever diesel ads??
"The Station" - New Audi Commercial - YouTube
I just googled and watched that. It is a great ad. Jeep needs to do some ads emphasizing the mileage and sportiness of the drive though. That Audi one is hilarious but I think Jeep has a long ways to go in educating customers on the performance and efficiency of Diesel.... not that I don't want to see humour because they NEED that so people will talk about it.

Here's another really clever Audi ad. If Jeeps wants to sell diesels, they should start running stuff like this...

Hmmm, like Shannon said, his delivery date was 9/6. I'm 9/14, but I'm glad my jeep didn't come to Denver this week, because it would have floated away. Plus once it gets off the train in Denver it has to make another trek into the mountains. I'm thinking those logistics will delay it a bit as well. I'm on vacation for the next week, so delivery later in the month is better for me anyway. Maybe the floods will subside, and they won't have to test the 20 inch water fording capability before it makes it to my local dealer...
