For Milous/Willx:
Spent the last month since my horned horse went to final inspection rebuliding my brick front steps and wood railings which came apart due to ice buildup. Been lurking here all along. I need to know if I should find another honeydo project to hold me over and if so, how big a project should it be?

The funny/sad/ironic thing is that back in early April when I was at one of the CJD dealerships and was talking to the salesman, i told him I was waiting for the diesel and he said "That's not going to be available until November". Inside I scoffed and laughed a bit thinking that he was either way out of touch with reality or he was just trying to push me toward the hemi.

I remember how "superior" I felt because I "knew" so much more than he did about the "real" state of things.

Yup ... I'm sooooooooo smart!

Funny thing is that you were more correct in the beginning, but maybe in this case the cynicism and the jaded salesperson point of view in this case, he knew something out of pure experience.

Fun fact for the day ... if my SFU ever arrives, I would be able to drive from my home here near San Francisco to my childhood home (where my parents still live) in eastern Pennsylvania, while only filling the tank 4 times and still have some oil left in the tank!

Or i could drive to the ski resorts near Denver with just 2 tanks.

Or if I get myself in a bit 'o trouble, I could be in Tijuana with just 1 tank.

That is pretty cool.

Wikipedia:
In motorsports, homologation is the approval process a vehicle, race track or standardised part must go through to race in a given league or series. The regulations and rules that must be met are generally set by the series' sanctioning body.[1] The word is derived from the Greek homologeo—literally "same words"—for "agree".

Not to add fuel to the fire, but I went to my dealership today to drive the hemi overland in consideration of canning the diesel limited I had ordered with everyone else. They pulled my invoice and noted that the base cost of our precious SFUs has actually gone up by about $200. My sales guy thinks that they were waiting on a "part," which makes me concerned about the de-tuning theory. There was also an increase in price for the 20" rims and a $20 - $30 fuel surcharge on the new invoice as well? When all was said and done, it's going to cost an additional $400 from when I ordered (limited 4x4, tow package, 20" rims). Should I fight this new increase or do I have any ground to stand on? In the end I walked and decided to continue waiting on my SFU. I guess I needed some input and time to think.

I too was hoping to CRD it before the snow flies. Its always nice to get some "nice weather" driving in on a new vehicle before snow season starts.

Alas, we've been driving in snow for the last 6 weeks here, so that ship sailed a long time ago. However, we are having temps up to the upper 40s this week, and lots of sun, so it might be a nice week to see some movement... If I'm lucky we might even have some Indian Summer to get me through the first few weeks of ownership. ;-)

From the VM Motori page:
"The L version of the 3L V6 has been specifically developed to meet the challenging emission norms of North America market (NAFTA) and provides 177 kW power and 570 Nm torque." &
"NOTE: in order to meet specific vehicle requirements and specifications, performance de-rating is possible."

Hey guys, I just put my order in for an ecodiesel summit so I'll be joining you all in the wait. Since I'm getting a late start unlike you all, how long do you think it would take for my vehicle to at least be produced? To my understanding there is some way you're all able to track the progress of your builds. Would anyone like to fill me in on how I should be "patiently" following this SFU's every movement?

I think 6-8 weeks is what is normally quoted for building and shipping. I'm guessing by the info here that by the time your's is built they will be shipping the diesels. Send your VON from the dealer via PM to Milous and he'll add you to the tracking on MOTS (Milous Order Tracking System) vs VOTS which is the Jeep version. MOTS really shines once the vehicle is released and provides detailed tracking through the entire shipping process. Level 4 membership will get you a custom build sheet for your vehicle. Keep your eyes on this thread and you'll be among the first to find out when they are released.

That is a press release: "The low-output version of the turbo diesel engine will be standard on Laredo models (optional on Limited). Creating a more affordable entry point to the new Jeep Gramd Cherokee lineup. This will allow Grand Cherokee to meet a wider potential market in Europe."

I have seen that sort of thing before & suspect that the "low power" version will not have a turbo. A 30% drop in peak power is about what I would expect from a N/A diesel of the same configuration. Would have about the same peak fuel economy since at cruise the boost drops way off & could kick the CR up a few points but probably be able to be priced a few K$ less.

ps if I really wanted to know what is going on I'd try calling a few people.

Ok guys and gals, this guy here just hit a gold mine.. I feel like an idiot for not trying this person sooner. VERY knowledgable source (untapped up until now) just spilled the beans. We're ALL off base.. Which pisses me off bc that means my other connects have all been giving me bad info. Albeit different info, but still incorrect. Or maybe they didn't know either. But I've been hunting, cause this will probably be my last launch.

Anyway, it's so flippin simple. I probably overlooked it a million times. And so did the guys who came last week! And Marlon! Smh.. He should've known this one!

Obviously I'm being vague bc I can't speak to what the deal is. Not even a little bit. But it has NOTHING to do with a retune/flash, logistics, etc. Nothing previously discussed here. It's not even the same thing I spoke abt a couple weeks ago which is done. It's so blatant I feel so dumb. ALL I will say is, they WILL be shipping soon. I promise. And I don't make many promises. Oh, and don't be surprised if some of the later builds get KZ'd first. That's ALL I can say. :)

Edit: And I knew they know their stuff, one bc it's partly their job to know, but also bc they plainly said, "there were some other things, but..." which coincides with what I already know and what has already been addressed. Even here. AND the fact that they weren't willing to talk about the other things (even to me) bc they're much more sensitive. They just didn't know that I already know. But it lends credibility to what they were willing to say. And it's easily verifiable.

Ah...I want more info. I wish we could get everyone in a room together. Really I just want to pull up to a gas station and pickup a green handle fuel pump slide that baby right in. ;-)

For reference, head over to Shannon's 'JNAP Plant Tour' thread and look thru the pics.. It's not what you see, it's what you DON'T see that tells the story!

Leprechauns? Sugar plum fairies? Will o the wisps? Just not familiar enough with what JNAP is supposed to have to really even guess... :(

Waiting on Big Foot to lift the unicorns on trucks maybe. Or aliens to use the same technology they used on building the pyramids.

Edit.
I'm just kidding on big foot. Though the continual delays are why I started calling them unicorns. On a serious note I'm going to have to purchase a vehicle very soon. My job is starting to require me to be at the customer once or twice a week. I do not have a car and as my GF works two blocks away and I've been hitching a ride with her. That's works out well but I start much earlier than she does. I won't have any way of getting to the customer. I know the delays are not caused by anyone here. I'm just venting. This forum has become a support group for me...

FYI: My post was simply to steer you all away from things that are not an issue. If I could confirm anything, I would've just made a shorter post with that info. This is not another guessing game.. Again, I'm just trying to get you all to look in a TOTALLY different direction. Window stickers, computer flashes, certs, Cherokee's stealing all the trains, blah blah blah.. None of that is the answer.

But you all are welcome to keep trying to figure it out, to kill time.. But honestly, by the time you do, they'll already be on their way.

Edit: And just so you all know, much of what's been discussed recently are things that happen during a pilot phase. You do not redo a car after it went into production AND keep building more. Just keep that in mind as you postulate NEW ideas. :)

This strikes me as the most sensible thing said on this thread in a loooong time... No way they would be retuning the engine at this stage, that would mean months of delays and basically redoing the whole powertrain.

Not that it helps to figure out what the delay is... But frankly I don't care what the reason is, just ship the damn cars already!

Just woke from a dream, and I think I may have figured it out. Crash test ratings with a diesel engine rather than a gas engine.

I'm going to go look at some other vehicle options on Saturday (Q7, Yukon Denali, maybe a few trucks)...If I get impressed I'll probably just buy something. I'm getting tired of this. Maybe if I do all of the SFU's will ship for you guys.

#5,116 ·
Q7 I can see but Yukon? 2006 tech that was just a refresh of the 2002 tech? I am not even sure they have auto windshield wipers any more (been severely decontented in recent years)

Drove a 2014 Cadillac Escalade Platinum for a week... not worth even comparing. At least with the Q you will be in this decade for tech and quality.

It is a plastic shortage. They don't have enough to cover the footwells prior to shipment. They are looking into plastic derivatives and alternates and even aluminum foil.

Or, the steering wheels where left hand drive but were calibrated for right hand drive.

Or, the exhaust was flipped and was upside down.

The statement of newer builds shipping before older ones completely makes sense because.... Well because it doesn't make sense. This seems to be the way things have been going with this whole release.

That actually makes sense to me. The older builds are buried in the lots. The newer builds are on the outsides of the lots and easier to get to. They also have the newer UConnect programming...... What? UConnect was the hold up (lol)
