2014 GC Diesel with P20EE Code

Hi everyone,
I just had a P20EE code pop up in my 2014 GC; it has 9500 KM ( 5900 miles) on it. It is: SCR NOx Cat Efficiency Below Threshold.

Question: how long can I drive it without damage to anything. I need to take a long driving trip in 2 weeks. Can I wait 5 weeks before having the code checked/repaired?

Any ideas on what the best solution is??

Thanks

Re: 2014 GC Diesel with P20EE Code

Pretty good chance it will keep going if the CAT converter is the only thing that is fried. if there is other DEF issues it will warn you and a countdown from 250KM will begin. I drove around for almost 10 months with just the P20EE code by itself. when you get that code damage is already done and only fix is to replace CAT converter.

Yup agreed with Nookie, if it was so bad FCA would fix it first time instead of sending you back on the road with a bs flash file update that doesn't correct it.

You should get the latest software updates; they may make a difference. My P20EE came and went 7,800 miles ago.

Do a search on TSB's for this code- it's a problem discussed in detail over the last year or so. The Update varies as there's many variations of "the cure" and Chrysler has no clue on how to actually fix it. So just about every month there's a new TSB adressing the P20EE blunder

Well that's an odd way to word it! Seems to me FCA does know what's causing it and how to fix it. They update the software, then if that doesn't help (I've been 3,000 miles since P2OEE came and went. No recurrence after latest flash.) they replace the cat. How does that equal "no clue how to actually fix it"?

Yes they continue to improve the software, you make that sound like a BAD thing.

2014 GC Diesel with P20EE Code

They have no clue, took them a year to actually smell what area the fire was in. Even this is a temporary measure, the core problem remains as it's design issue plus not much core support from Fiat to NA on this design. The enviromentalists love this thing, no smoke but uses 10x the parts. And all this "improving" is called experimenting on my dime. Also would be nice if they were a little more proactive on a flagship model....we'll talk again after yours has been in the shop for 20 days on and off- see how you like the improving then.

Re: 2014 GC Diesel with P20EE Code

My ride was in the dealer for less than a day for the cat replacement. They didn't even have the cat yet they got it done. I think your dealer is less than stellar at dealing with maintenance issues.
I didn't get the code until 24K miles and this cat should be recalled and all cats replaces on 14 because it isn't if but when this will happen. Thus the reason my dealer has been replacing these on some of the diesel Jeeps coming in.
Not sure what more support Fiat can provide other than do a cat replacement.

This isn't a brand issue this is what happens when those of us take a chance on the first year model. My BMW 335 had not been very stellar at reliability of the HPFP. water pump and ABS module. This was a first year model too.

20 days in the shop is a reflection of poor dealership skills and most dealerships are independently owned. I am guessing you have no other choice but to use this dealership because of distance or lack of other dealerships in your area?

There have been several (okay, many) Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updates over the last couple years. The latest for the 2014 diesel WK2 is 18-023-15 REV. A (May 27, 2015). To see all of the service update info, see:
